Okay, so anyone who has left the hospital for an office, how much of a hit did you have to take pay wise? I had a great interview today, but I would have to take about $11 an hour less than what I am making now. I mean, that's over $22k less a year! It stinks, because I would LOVE to take the job, but I just can't afford to lose that much money right now. I knew I would have to take less, I had just hoped it wouldn't be quite so much. Anyone else had this happen? If you did, how much less was the offer? (Note - not asking for your specific pay, just how much of a hit did you/would you have had to take?) Just curious! Thanks!

The position I thought was going to be a good change from the hospital setting ended up being a dud. The salary was $7 less an hour with NO benefits. There is no way I would demote myself. That is too much of a cut when you add it all up.

I'm in the southeast. I have a PRN clinic job (worked there throughout nursing school). I get paid $7/hour more at my full time job in the hospital...not including shift differentials. I kept the clinic job because I love my co-workers, the docs, and the pt interactions there (community-oriented).

I'm in the southeast. I have a PRN clinic job (worked there throughout nursing school). I get paid $7/hour more at my full time job in the hospital...not including shift differentials. I kept the clinic job because I love my co-workers, the docs, and the pt interactions there (community-oriented).

what does "PRN clinic" mean??---is it like a drug being prescribed "as needed," i.e., PRN??? Thanks.

The local chain of urgent care clinics pay an hourly rate that is $7 less than what I currently earn at a nursing home. That would be a massive pay cut that I am not willing to take at this time.

Now that would be doable. But $11 less? Yikes! This one was just a doc's office, but I have been looking for an occ health job for a while now, and I just can't find anything anywhere! I'm jealous of you!!! :)

Several years ago I applied for an office job because the docs in that office seemed like they'd be nice to work for. I went to my interview and they told me how great it was that I applied that they rarely got applicants that were RN's with clinical experience... I thought they'd offer me something decent and I think at the time what they offered was $10 less than what I made then and more like $15 less than what I make now. They also had no overtime, no shift differentials, I'd have to find daycare cause it was weekdays, just was not at all worth it... Oh and they were very forth coming with the fact that they did not offer insurance and gave a very limited number of vacation or personal days... And that they only offered raises once a year at a two percent rate or something. I had to decline.

I know...I would have to work more days a week, much less flexibility, waaaaay too much less money, etc. It's too bad, because I really liked the docs, liked the atmosphere, etc. The cons just outweigh the pros in my situation, and it's too bad. The pros for me taking this job are that it would be a day shift, regular schedule with no eves, no weekends, no on call, and the environment is much more relaxed. There would be a lot of pt education, and I love education, but I get to do that part where I am now. So sad, because I think I would have loved that job!!!
