After one year in the nursing school I heard I can just get a CNA license ASAP

I will soon finish my fist year of nursing school and I heard in California I can receive my cna license.

is this true and how?

I think you should inquire with your school and state BON. Your particular institution may not have this option available. My LPN program didn't. Some LPN programs allowed students to sit for their CNA certification after the first semester, but others don't. It may be the same for your RN program.

I'm not sure how other states work, but where I live if you are in nursing school you can automatically become a CNA/tech/nurse extern without getting an actual license.

Here in FL you can work as a tech or intern as long as you have completed fundamentals/concepts. We have that class during 1st term so after 4 months we are automatically eligible for the position, no test or anything needed. I am not sure about your state though, so as someone mentioned it might be best to contact the BON. Good luck!

And remember when you call the BON you're asking about a certification, NOT a license ;)

In CA you can get your CNA via equivilancy but you'll need help from your school to get it since you'll need transcripts etc.

In Texas if you are getting your BSN after your junior year you can take your state board exam for LVN. However there are requirements as to what courses you must have had. Peds was one of them and in my program that was not until the last semester of senior year.
