:D Hi, I'm trying to get into nursing school in sc and I know the state liscensing doesn't require a background check but the schools do and it's more than one school. Does anyone have a list of charges that would be a disqualifying factor?? Thanks so much!! :wink2:

It's different with each state and each school. We can't give advice like that here, it's against the TOS. Sorry.

It's not advice it's information.

No, it is considered advice because it's about something legal. We can't answer it.

Legal? OK. The reason I asked here is because on old post I see some questions about it..... People talked about it and noone mentioned what your saying. Thanks though!!

I would be surprised if there isn't a background check for state licensing...what state is this?

Usually felonies and anything involving hurting someone in your care. In my state it is a case by case decision; if you have to check yes you have been convicted you give an explanation and any documentation from the court and they make a decision.

Each state is different. And some do require a background check, with fingerprints and everything. There are a lot of variables so don't depend on anyone to give you information but the BON were you think your going to get licensed. If you've got a background, talk to a lawyer who specialized in licensing issues to get the scoop on your state.

In general, always be honest. If you lie and get caught, you out of luck.

It's not advice it's information.

There is a very fine line regarding legal advice and everyday information....wording is everything ;) We talk about breaks and lunches on here all of the time an in all reality, I would consider that just as much legal advice as talking about background checks.

Just like breaks vary from State to State, so do background checks.

Both are legal issues.

Go to your State Board of Nursing. There will probably be a link to that info that you can read. If not, there should be a toll free number that you can call.

Good Luck!

Go to the recent thread, RN Guidelines Criminal Record. I would be surprised that certain states would not do do a background check. You do have to disclose any misdomeaners to your BON. (Along with felonies). Also, any type of medical postion requires a background check. This became the norm after 9/11. Goodluck!:twocents:
