U.S.A. Arizona

Anybody else going to be applying? I'm a long shot because I'm applying without all my courses completed, they will be done in the Spring.

Hi guys,

So I had to opportunity to speak to two nursing students the other day during community service. One was block 3 the other was block 4.

She said shoes that are mostly white are acceptable. No material is absolutely required. I IDed a pair of lunarglide 5's with Nike. I am fortunate enough to work for Nike so I get great deals on customized shoes. They are GREAT and I highly recommend the lunar glides. And yes, block 1 will definitely be easy BUT in the past curriculum you had geriatrics your first block. Also, Celeste, what entrance exam are you referring to?

Be careful with books. This is coming from the nursing students I talked to- with the summer curriculum our books have changed so wait until our next meeting to figure out what they are. Also, I heard there was a lot of disorganization about which online clinical programs you can use "the code" and which ones you can buy the CD. She said people were frantic trying to get the CD last minute after there was a miscommunication about being able to use the code. They said used books are good, just be careful if anything comes with a used code. ALSO they said get amazon prime which is apparently free to students- I looked into it and all I found was a discounted rate- but she said it comes in handy with the last minute buys. She said teachers will say "you have this book by tuesday (on a thursday) or else you'll be placed on clinical probation." They both said it happens... They also said do not stress, it is not as bad as everyone claims!!! Obviously study times differ from person to person but one student said he is not a reader (nor am I) and he is breezing through. I got the chance to pick at their brains for 3-4 hours so let me know if you have any questions.

One last thing, fingernails. Obviously acrylics are not allowed--which was stated in the nursing clinical portal video and it is obvious that it is just a feeding ground for bacteria BUT on a lighter note, the girl said that neutral nail polish is allowed :) she had a light pink that looked very feminine. She said some teachers are stricter than others but she said continuously refer back to the handbook for precise rules.

I heard we should get the packets from an upperclassmen but I'm not sure. Normally buying at the bookstore is expensive

All she said is our books have changed.

Hi everyone. Ebak, for you at Boswell I can tell you now, our campus is strict about us looking good. They are trying to mold us into professional nurses. From this point on you represent GCU. Everything that you do & say can be held against you. Please be careful about what you post on social media. Shoes must be all white however I've seen a pair with a purple Nike check. (1pair) nails must be clean & short, no polish at our campus. Polish even un-chipped harvests bacteria. Hair kept up out of face & off shoulders in your scrubs.

They did away with fundamentals & we now have "foundations" which teaches u the ethics behind nursing. It's a great course in which we all need so we can be aware of the rules & our limits in the profession. We don't have clinical in level 1 but luckily at Boswell, we have volunteers from the hospital who come to our labs for health assessment & allow us to practice on them. It's so much fun & they are very nice, we enjoy them as well.

Books: I always purchased the bundle which to me was quick & easy. Some ppl did buy their books online & purchase the codes separately.

One more thing, for pharm, look for Pharm Phlash, these are flash cards with every med & all you need to know about them. These saved me! You'll see once you get them! ;-)

Relax guys, it's lost of hard work but you made it this far for a reason. Manage your time & study hard, you've got this!!!

hey all.. just a fyi - a facebook page was set up for all of us by alexis.. look it up: "GCU Summer 2014 Accelerated Nursing Cohort".. i just went on and it's just her and i so far. we think it'd be another good outlet to post info, tips, etc!! :)
