Gayle Greve Hunt School of Nursing Fall 2019

Published

Hello I was wondering if anyone else applied for fall 2019?

Hi,

I also applied for fall of 2019. I've read previous threads and saw that majority of the students received an email to schedule for their interview around the first week of March so hopefully within three weeks we should hear something back. I'm actually going to call the school on Monday because I received notification from nursing cas that my application was "Complete" however in the email I received from the school it states that the application must be "Verified" which my application isn't.

Really? That’s weird I know another person that also applied and also got something different and I got an email saying they received my supplemental items and now o should wait to be told if I receive and interview we should be getting some emails prob by the end of this week or next saying they are working on reviewing our applications at least that’s what I’ve seen in previous threats, I just get so worried, what are your stats if you don’t mind?,, I’m worried since I feel like they will consider only 4.0 or 90 on the Hesi although I’ve seen otherwise and I’ve also heard they focused on sections of the hesi like a&p bio and chem

Once I submitted my supplemental application I never received an email asides from my receipt of payment. I did submit all of my supplemental items. My scores are definitely not that high. My overall GPA is a 3.4 my science GPA is a 3.6 and my overall Hesi score is an 86. I do have some clinical experience working at an ER.

What are your stats?

Hmm I think as long as we submitted everything we should be fine have you checked your application? My friend didn’t receive the email I received either but she called and they told her not to worry since they verify each application one by one. My Hesi is an 86 too and my over all is 3.6 my science gpa is a 3.75 and my experience is one yr as a volunteer in a nursing home and 6 months at the UMC hospital In l&d shadowing nurses..I’ve defined know ppl who have lower stats and got in so idk tbh i feel they consider different aspects I do know for a fact they consider the hesi alot and certain sections like conclusions section a&p for sure bio and chem...tbh I feel as long as you get over 75 in all areas of the hesi they will look at you

You definitely have a strong application. I’m positive you will get accepted. This is the only school I applied for. If I don’t get in my next step is to apply to Chamberlain College of nursing. I can’t wait another semester, my goal is to start a nursing program this year. Have you applied to any other programs?

Where is that located at? Are you form El Paso? Yes I’ve applied to utep phase 3 and I will be applying to epcc rn program..your application is strong too! I’m pray I gent in too I can’t wait any longer :( I’ve already waited long I actually didn’t get in to phase 3 at utep since their program is diff, they only consider the gpa of the classes you take in phase 2 In order for you to get into phase 3 which is nursing school(phase 2 is Pharm, patho, intro to nursing) so even if you have good academics or a good overall gpa and great standing of you don’t make that gpa for phase 2 your out..and you can only retake once :(

I’m applying for the summer since they told me fall at utep is more competitive since no one wants summer classes

Trust me with the application you have you’re guaranteed an acceptance. I considered applying to UTEP as well, but once I read that your application is based on phase 2, I decided to opt out of it. I’m from Houston. Chamberlain is a nursing program here that offers no waitlist. As long as you score a 73 or higher on the Hesi and have a gpa of 2.75 or higher you’re guaranteed acceptance. The only bad part is that it cost 42,000 for the program so I would much rather save myself the debt. Good luck with your UTEP application. When will you find out if you got accepted for the summer?

by may...and thank you our stats I feel are very similar I worry there’s a lot of ppl on our range, and I wish I could be so confident but a lot depends on the interview too ? last semester I had ppl who applied in class and from what I’ve heard your seat isn’t guaranteed even if you get an interview so a lot depends on that too, also I worry since I got told more ppl apply during the fall n it doesn’t help that everyone in El Paso seems to want to study nursing so more competition, wow really? Every nursing program is way diff! And yes utep idk why it’s only based on phase 2 what got me was patho that professor was though and I mean she was hard but I will say i learned so much and new study skills I didn’t know I needed it’s taught at a nursing level that’s why and it’s 4 credits, although I’ve heard utep is more theory based, have you visited El Paso before?

That’s very true I feel like most of the applicant pool is within our range if not higher which makes me extremely nervous. I’m honestly hoping that my personal statement and letters of recommendation help me get at least an interview. Yeah reading the previous threads I noticed that the interview does not guarantee you acceptance if anything it’s the point that can make you a nursing student or just another applicant. I’ve never been to El Paso. I found this program because a lot of the doctors that I work with completed their residency with Texas Tech El Paso. I think they are phenomenal physicians and have incredible bedside manners and I just knew that whatever school could produce such thoughtful and caring physicians was the best school to help me be the nurse I know I can be. Nursing overall has just become so competitive which is completely insane because we have such a high demand for nurses and the demand is only going to increase.

I’m so glad to hear that you’ve heard only great things from this program, it’s my number one choice as I’ve heard the way they teach is a more hands on, I volunteer at the hospital and for some reason some nurses seem to dislike utep students since they make comments referring to the students only knowing theory but can’t practice, I’ve even heard better things from the epcc program since it is also similar to the TT, regardless I know it is a challenging career no matter where you go, and yes I have this feeling too that most are within our range and I know I’m also hoping my previous education and letters also help as well as I’ve retaken patho and went from a C to an A. I was also told that they like to see that you own up to academic performance and that you know how to succeed Incase you struggle, someone on another threat had mentioned that they asked her about her academic performance. The waiting is killing me so bad I just hope that by posting this other ppl can gain experience when they choose to apply I know i was over confident and reading threats made me realize my hesi was imp, they’re was someone with a 3.2 i believe and got in but their hesi was 90 idk tbh i also think it’s the character you show when interviewing, I’m sure they are looking for ppl who are determined and show strong character as I’ve heard nursing school is very tough.
