Verah interesting........
Looks to me like it's a separate application process. Don't know what the wait list is like for it, but for those of you on the waitlist for the RN program, it might not hurt to apply here too. You qualify.
yea i just applied at the lpn program thru gateway the other day too and they said the same thing. my thing is now is just to look for a cna job..does anyone have any ideas who may hire a new cna?and should i apply for the regular rn program as a backup plan?
I would strongly suggest volunteering at a hospital. I volunteered for about a month at Banner before they offered me a job as a PCA. Just make sure to volunteer in the department you're interested in, then work your butt off.
It's been great to get the experience and I think it will help me tremendously in clinicals. I'm no longer afraid of new procedures and touching patients. It's fun too, just physically exhausting.
I am going the LPN-BSN route because - 1 I need to work right now. Because I did not work throughout Nursing school. 2 because I have a job making GREAT money. 2. Easier schedule for me than back at the CC level.
I am soo happy I found this thread! I am definitely going this route! 1.5 year wait list is what I was quoted today at EMCC!! But this is far better I think.
Where are you doing the LPN-BSN? In AZ? That sounds Awesome too!!!
I don't think there is a LPN-BSN route here in AZ. There is a RN-BSN, LPN-RN, AND BSN-MA. I am sure that does not exist. Let me know if I am wrong.
You're correct - technically it isn't direct, however ASU has a transfer agreement for adn RN's from any of the Maricopa colleges that makes it pretty seamless.

University of Phoenix has an LPN-BSN. I just spoke with them this week. Good news, bad news. Good news, you don't have to be working as an LPN for a specified amount of time like their RN-BSN (which is 1 yr); you just have to have your LPN license. If you don't have any pre-req's done you are able to start pretty much immediately, I was told as early as July. Bad news, if you have all your pre-reqs done, there is at least a year wait to start the core classes. I do, and was told earliest I could start is May 2011.
If someone is wanting to go this route, I would suggest getting all the pre-req's done at a community college to save money as they will transfer those credits. Again, downside is then there is waiting list to start the core classes.
Also, not to put a damper on those wanting to go the Fast Track LPN route, which I just finished, but unfortunately more and more people have discovered this route and depending on timing there may be a 1-2 semester wait to be placed into block 3 when you are done. For example, there were 3 cohorts running this past fall/spring (aug 2009 - may 2010). There was a day, afternoon, and evening class, of which there were approximately 87 that passed and graduated. We were told that there were limited spots open for Fall and placement would be based on HESI score. We aren't going to find out until July how many spots are open. In the past, they have opened up Block 3 cohorts specifically for the LPN graduates, but due to the number of Banner programs currently running, they are unable to do that for Fall. They are talking about opening a block 3 cohort in Spring 2011, but this is not for sure. Now, this is for Gateway specifically. They do put you into a data base for other schools to call if they have a spot open up. I have contacted Phoenix, MCC, SCC, and CGCC and they have absolutely no spots available for Fall they are telling me. This is why I was checking out UofP.
Advice, when you take your HESI, take it seriously and get at the very least a 950, anything lower than that and you will be waiting. In order to even move on to block 3 you have to score an 800, but you really need at least 950 if you want to be placed without waiting for more than a semester. I scored well over 950, and am still being told there may be no spot for me in the fall, and I know of only 2 other people that scored higher than me. I was told pretty likely to get in if there are spots, but they aren't sure if or how many spots there will be. So far the news we are getting is not very encouraging.
Again, not trying to discourage anyone, but just letting you know the reality. Things always change, so things may be different when you guys graduate. Hopefully, that is the case, but just wanted to update on our situation now. I have been scrambling trying to get my ducks in a row. FIngers crossed I get in for Fall.
Good luck to everyone starting the program, you will absolutely love it!
Question I can't find an answer to...how long after completing the LPN program can you become licensed as an LPN? I hope I can obtain an LPN license and begin working before entering Block 3. How possible is this?
You can begin the process 30-60 days before you actually complete the LPN program, but you can't take the nclex until the school notifies the BON that you passed your program, and the BON authorizes you to take the test. Assuming you pass, and all of your paperwork is 100% perfect and goes out at light-speed it could theoretically be done in a month. or six months+ if you use the wrong gauge staples to hold your packet together.
read all the fine print at the AZ BON:

wrong gauge staples...LOL!!!
Since it took 4 months, yes, 4 months to get my CNA since for some strange reason the couldn't "read" my fingerprints, I should have known it could be an ordeal. Thanks for the info, maybe if I put it on a jet plane it will get done in lightning speed. Let's hope. Again, Thank you :)
So what is the expected wait to get into the program? I have my hesi test, and fingerprint card from teaching, and am taking the CNA next week at RSAA. This is the only program that would work for me because I'm a teacher and need to go on weekends/at night. I am working on all the co-requisites right now for the RN program.
When is the next application date? I looked on their website, and didn't see a specific date. How many times a year does the program start? Do you go during the summer? Does anyone else have any tips for the CNA manual skills exam? That's the last thing I have to do before applying. I'm scheduled to take the test on July 10th.

I got mine too! I'm doing the evening program. Anyone else out there in the evening program? From reading this thread I'm much more confident about going this way. I've done all my pre-reqs and co-reqs and am tired of waiting. So, I'm getting really excited about finally starting NS.
