Galen College

U.S.A. Kentucky

Just thought I would start a new thread about Galen. Anything and everything Galen can be posted here! Please feel free to share, or ask questions!

I am still waiting on my acceptance letter, and am going crazy:bugeyes:! Hopefully, I will be starting July 27th.:yeah:

There is so much to do and like you all I am worried about the financial part. slmcdo05 you seem to know about the pell grant and financial part of all of this. I assume the higher your EFC the less amount of money you qualify for. I have a feeling my EFC of 3908 is a little high. Do you know if there is a minimum grant amount? This can be confusing since from what I have read the EFC is what we are expected to contribute per year. If thats the case the numbers just don't add up.

Also, I wouldn't worry to much about the credit aspect of the background check in this economy I am sure there are alot of people who have had credit issues.

By the way THANKS for all of your input!

WE WILL ALL DO GREAT!!!!

Hey Sonya! I already have my CPR.

We have to have all white leather shoes. Tennis shoes are fine, I was just told they had to be all white. That's why I want some shox, because I love them. I just found some, but I won't post the site yet. I'm going to be the guinea pig to see if the merchant is reputable. That way, I can tell you all how much, how long it takes to get them and what have you. I don't want to pass along negative information.

Hey Slmcdo!

No, I don't live in Kentucky. I live in Indiana too, so I won't be eligible for the state loans either. I'm glad the background check is to just learn more about your character. I have been a teacher's assistant for four years now.

I went to the FAFSA website and my EFC is 09950. I have no clue what that means though. I don't mind if I have to take out some student loans. I just hope I am eligible to get loans!! Thank you for all of your helpful information!! :)

Hi Michelle! I just looked up the EFC requirements for getting a pell grant. The site says that you are eligible for

federal pell grants if your EFC is $4110 or lower. So you will get the pell grant; I just don't know howmuch!

Your efc doesn't literally mean what you are expected to contribute, it's just a way for them to calculate your financial aid. My husbands EFC was 1600 and he got about $3200 in pell grants. After his student loans and pell grants, he owes about $1400 out of pocket. I hope this helps you Michelle!

Hey 1stlady2,

thanks for the info about the shoes. Let us know how you like your shox!

If they are good, I'll probably get a pair!

Are you doing days or nights?

Hey lasdrs07! I just posted that I looked up the EFC info on the federal website and it says that you have to have an EFC lower than $4110 to get the pell grant!

Don't worry, you will be eligible for student loans though. Everyone is eligible for student loans as long as you don't have a prior student loan in default.

I don't remember if I asked you or not, but will you be attending day or nigh classes? My husband and I will be attending days!

Hope to see you girls in class!

sonya

Thanks slmcdo05 I will be happy with whatever help I can get. I just hope I can get a loan for the full amount that I will owe. We are going to have enough start up expenses. I think it is cool that you and your husband are doing this together.

1stLady let us know about those shox. I love them too.

Hey Slmcdo! That is good to hear that everyone is eligibile for student loans. I will be doing day classes. I can't wait to meet you all!! Let's just hope I get my acceptance letter soon!!!

This financial aid stuff has got me sooo confused!! Are we suppose to print out the FAFSA worksheet and bring it with us to our appointment? Has anyone filled out the online app? I don't think I am going to do that.

acorne, if you do it online a couple of days before your appt., it will go to Galen automatically. You don't have to print out anything.

Specializes in none yet!.

Wow, go away for awhile, and this thread explodes with so much helpful information!

Congrats Acorne, slmcd05, and Michelle72!

I will be starting 7/27 Days. We should all meet up at orientation, or even before then for that matter!

I FINALLY got my letter today!!! I got accepted!!!! YAY!!!!!!!!!! :yeah:You guys are so right, now there are a whole bunch of new things to worry about. I am already freaking out because I have a family vacation planned July 9th-13th. Obviously, that falls during orientation, which is July 11th. I don't know what to do because this vacation has been planned for over a year now and is already paid for. What should I do?? Should I email someone at Galen and tell them about my situation or do you think they will think I am already causing a problem? lol. See, I worry way too much!!! haha!
