Galen College of Nursing

Published

I wasn't finding any recent information on Galen, so I started a new topic.

I met with an adviser and toured Galen College in Tampa a few days ago and am really interested in the school. I would be transferring as many credits as possible to make the cost more affordable for the LPN-ADN bridge. I live in Orlando where many schools have a 2 year wait list, and my GPA is not that competitive (my 18-year-old self clearly didn't want to attend school), so I have been stressing over finding a good program.

Anyway, I am really concerned about their accreditation. Can anyone help clear things up for me? My head is just spinning. They are regionally accredited by the Southern Association Colleges and Schools Commission. They are currently candidates for ACEN accreditation from 6/13 to 6/15.

My concerns are if my credits will transfer for an ADN-BSN program (NOT paying 18k for theirs). Regarding the ACEN, does this mean they will be accredited in 6/15 if all pans out? I have spent the morning calling local hospital HR depts to see if not having the accreditation would impair my chances of being hired.

Any other information regarding the college would be appreciated.

Thank you!

That sucks cause that means your looking at two a week once you hit the end quarters, hopefully that's something they do, then decide is dumb and stop doing by the time you guys get to the last few courses

Thought I'd add that we were told they are changing the clinicals from 12 hours to 6 hour shifts so they will be double what we were expecting. :(
This is only for the third quarter (your first set of clinicals). It's basically because with only three days it was impossible for the instructors to adequately evaluate the students in three days. The mental health clincals were 4 nine hour clinical days and the OB/PEDS were two 10 hr clinical days and two 8 hour simulation lab. The last two quarters are currently 12 hours clinical days, once a week, except the last quarter there's a week or two with two days.

Since you had all of your gen ed classes complete? I currently have all of the Q1 classes complete (as well as a few others from other quarters). I was wondering if that would knock a semester off and allow me to finish in 21 months instead of 24.

If employers have a choice between a Galen student or SPC, they’re definitely going to pick the SPC student. SPC has a better reputation than Galen.

Both are good schools. I think there’s more to choosing an employee than solely where they graduated from. As far as SPC vs. Galen, there is one large employer (not saying that this employer would be my first choice) that actually bought part of Galen recently. They probably wouldn’t be partial to SPC.
