Hey All,
I aM floored. I just received notice from GA Board of Nursing that they denied the endorsement of my MN RN license because I did not meet clinical practice requirements . When I called the board, they transferred me to a their Legal Nurse Consultant who stated that effective July 1, 2008 GA would no longer endorse RN license from Excelsior College students with no previous RN experience. She suggested that I go to my licensed state and work for a while then try again, but she could not give me a time frame.
Has anyone else experienced this. I thought we should at least have gotten some sort of notice/warning before this type of rule be adopted by the board. I am going to file a motion for reconsideration using an Attorney. Before I entered Excelsiors program I called GA Board to verify acceptance. I had been accepted to a traditional LPN to RN bridge program; I could have been almost finished their too. I am so sad right now. I have been crying for two days. I think I will need to see my doctor for Zoloft.
I have been an LPN for over 13 years doing Med/Surg for at least 10. I work on a hospital unit right now. THIS IS SO UNFAIR!!!:banghead:
Alright, and now, here are some Senate bills:
SB45:

SB 49, sponsored by Rep. Lee Hawkins:

Pauliegirl, under this Senate bill, does EC qualify as an accepted school under rule "D"?

The federal government is starting to panic about the nursing shortage:

Perhaps we need to take this issue a bit further than Georgia's state government? And look at what they say about foreign nurses being brought in....

I agree with you. Looks like our lovely (and I use that term loosely) representatives are adding to the problem and are offering no viable solutions other than "EC must go". Without even legitimate reason why EC must go. Looks like this would be an ideal time to "work out a compromise" as they put it; but no, they refuse to give in and see the errors of their ways. I'm sure other states are attempting to take a proactive stance to this but Georgia legislators continue to shoot themselves in the foot.
Rep. Cooper has not come up with a solution to address the lack of space in the traditional programs, lack of instructors, nor the fact that some of us absolutely cannot afford to quit our jobs to return to school. Every piece of legislation she introduces is self-serving I honestly do not think that she has what's best for Georgia at heart. I think her colleagues are doing themselves an injustice because they are not questioning her motives.
Alright, we have updated our blog. If you haven't read it yet, read the first part, then the most recent entry.
Feel free to leave a comment, if you wish.

I checked the HHS Committee schedule for this week. If the House bills don't make it to the Senate by Thursday, they will have to wait until 2010 for consideration. None of the HHS bills are listed on their schedule for the week, so, hopefully, none of those bills will be viable for a vote until 2010. Let's keep our ears to the ground to make sure they don't do something dishonest, like conceal bills and acts and not put them on a publicly posted schedule.
That would be grounds for losing the public's confidence in their integrity. Of course, I haven't seen any signs of integrity come from her yet, so.....
The good news is, SB 49 has already made it to the House from the Senate, but it is still tucked firmly under Rep. Cooper. We need to find a way to get it out of her committee. At the very least, EC students still have the waiver, for now. I ultimately want the waiver gone and for all of us to be treated just like every other nurse who applies for licensure in Georgia, not segregated, as we are now.
I have read the bills and have a grasp of the concepts, but I want someone who is well-versed in reading bills and acts to confirm the meaning of these bills and to check to see if there are any bad loopholes in their wording.
I so admire everyone's tenacity on this thread!! Keep up the good work everyone!!!:yeah:

pauliegirl, under this senate bill, does ec qualify as an accepted school under rule "d"?http://www.legis.state.ga.us/legis/2009_10/fulltext/sb45.htm
hi gobsmacked!!
:igtsyt:....the way i read it, i think it does!!! i've read it over again 20 times from every direction, and it really translates that way for me!!! :yeahthat:
:up:thanku for asking :urck::loveya:, hopefully we will find out for sure now- i've wondered for awhile!
((...pauliegirl, where are youuu...?? we await the 'final answer'...))
I'm so glad that someone else saw that!!! I have read it right side up and upside down and sideways six ways to Sunday, and it appears to me that EC would fit the criteria under rule D. The funny thing is, it is some of the House Bills, written the same way.
I just really want someone who is used to reading these kinds of documents to make sure there are no loopholes whatsoever against us.
Thanks, love!!! I actually breathed a sigh of relief that you saw that the same way!:yeah:
