GA BON no longer accepting Excelsior education; Speak up Cont. Updates!!

Published

Hey All,

I aM floored. I just received notice from GA Board of Nursing that they denied the endorsement of my MN RN license because I did not meet clinical practice requirements . When I called the board, they transferred me to a their Legal Nurse Consultant who stated that effective July 1, 2008 GA would no longer endorse RN license from Excelsior College students with no previous RN experience. She suggested that I go to my licensed state and work for a while then try again, but she could not give me a time frame.:banghead:

Has anyone else experienced this. I thought we should at least have gotten some sort of notice/warning before this type of rule be adopted by the board. I am going to file a motion for reconsideration using an Attorney. Before I entered Excelsiors program I called GA Board to verify acceptance. I had been accepted to a traditional LPN to RN bridge program; I could have been almost finished their too. I am so sad right now. I have been crying for two days. I think I will need to see my doctor for Zoloft.

I have been an LPN for over 13 years doing Med/Surg for at least 10. I work on a hospital unit right now. THIS IS SO UNFAIR!!!:banghead::banghead: :banghead:

Hey Lisa(LunahRN),

Wow, pretty similar background! Looks like we have more in common than being short red heads ;) I am assuming just as feisty too!

Grrrrrl, you KNOW it! ;)

Freedom of speech, yes. Freedom of choice, no. At least not when it comes to choosing a tried and tested (psst...that's what evidenced based means...) school.

I don't think I have ever read a more elitist statement in my life. Shame on you. Really. When you do your clinicals can you actually SEE the patients from up that high?

More of the judgment thing. Who exactly are you again, that you are in a situation to judge someones motivations? Are ya ordained? Walk on water? I would settle for someone with any experience other than a "patient simulator".

Again, where are your figures/facts/diagrams/power points with this information that you are (not) citing? Little secret. If your ego is truly that big, I can tell you for a fact that you couldn't dust the boots of most of the EC students here in Georgia. Really. These guys are hard working people who have been helping real (not simulated) people for years. They eat humble pie every day because of elitist, ignorant people like you telling them they are a danger to society and that their choices/motivations do not meet your expectations. Where is your compassion? You know patients really like compassion right? Yet you do this without a single shred of significant evidence. I will ask again: show us that EC students have a statistically significant higher rate of poor patient outcomes. Or...just shut up and let the grown ups talk.

???? What? Desired legal outcome? Uh this is all NURSES .com. Legal outcomes occur with trials. Did you mean patient outcomes or did you get that from your simulated teacher?

Please tell me that you are either an LPN or a paramedic. Please. Guess you have never seen an RN with the deer caught in the headlights look who was saved by a paramedic or LPN. Sure I have seen the opposite as well. Wonder what conclusions I could draw from that?

Thank you. At last. Some truth. Score one for you. Oh wait. We do pass at higher than national averages for the NCLEX. We do successfully complete our new grad programs. Ouch. You almost had it.

Or..or..you could get off of your high horse, come out of the clouds and stand with us. If integrity and honor mean anything to you.

Represents mine, and I am a nurse. Go figure.

Glad you could elevate yourself on the backs of these guys who are emotional train wrecks because people like you who refuse to look at evidence (you know there were no dinosaurs 6000 years ago right?) even though you claim to be part of profession that prides itself on evidence based practice.

Again, I say shame on you. You have been lurking around this site, using this information for a school project without any consideration for what these EC students are going through. I am always up for a good discussion, and if any your kind would bring something intelligent and tangible to the table I would say scold away. But you haven't, and I suspect you won't because you have the upper hand politically and you don't need to. Pat yourselves on the back. I am sure you and your simulated friends will be fine.

just spoke with the para-legal at the attorney generals office. she is the para-legal taking the calls for the attorney who handles the bon in ga. she said she has no idea what the next step is, that this is a very unusual situation and she just doesn't have the answer. she is willing to turn my questions over to someone who may be able to help and they would give me a call. who is this person who knows the steps....i guess nobody knows. i will update you they return my call. "

update.......

called the attorney general's office again today....

evidently the "person who knows" at the attorney generals office is the janet jackson person that i tried to contact originally and was advised to call sidney wilix b/c ms. jackson would be out of the office until monday.

I spoke with someone at the board (yes, they are actually answering the phone without a waiting period and the lady I spoke to was actually friendly and helpful. Must be some of the new staff sent over by the governor's office). She said my application was scheduled to be reviewed at Wednesday's teleconference, but she did not have any more information than that. She did say to give them 7 business days to post everything. She was just the person answering the phone so she did not have all the answers, but she was very helpful (which is a first, at least in my experience with the board). She even said that this situation "really stinks" for us, and she is really pulling for us and hoping we all get through and get our licenses. Quite a refreshing change in attitude! Hopefully, it isn't just lip service.

So, call the board if you filed your waiver in late December/early January. The people answering the phone will at least be able to tell you if your application got reviewed this past Wednesday. They don't know results yet because they are not posted, but at least you will know if you have another step behind you. Their number (as if you don't know it already!) is 478-207-2440.

In the meantime, keep working on getting SB 49 out of committee and to the House floor to be put to a vote! It is not just about us, but others who will follow us. Keep writing your representatives and the reps of the HHS committee, as well as the governor. All of the numbers and URLs, etc., have been posted in the past several pages of this blog (in case you are new and haven't been playing along at home until now). KEEP UP THE GOOD WORK, EVERYONE! I'M VERY PROUD OF BEING AMONG ALL OF YOU!:yeah::yeah::yeah::yeah::yeah::yeah::yeah::yeah::yeah::yeah::yeah::yeah::yeah::yeah::yeah::yeah::yeah::yeah:

I'm glad you had a nice experience with them on the phone today! That's a step in the right direction. :)

No doubt! I've had six months of the polar opposite! The lady who answered the phone was very kind. I hope that, whoever on here calls the board gets to speak with her and you get treated just as well. :redbeathe:D:nurse:

We all deserve that sort of respect and support.

Thank you so much for your support and your encouraging words...

i think i spoke with the same person the when i called on 2/13. she was so nice and helpful that i started to cry. my application status was pending for 31 days with no update and she took the time to tell me find out that my application had been accepted and posted to georgia.net, then explained the timelines. they only have 60 calendar days from the posting on ga.net to get you a response in writing. i called the bon today and did not get this lady. i am waiting for the secretary of states executive officer to call me. i was told it would be 24 to 48 hours (of course it is friday). any way, it seems no one knows what the ag's role in this process is. the lady i spoke with at the bon says that i was misinformed and the petitions are not sent to the ag. i told her that ms. wilix at the ag already verified that they were there. then i was told the executive officer would call me. oh well, i did get verification that my petition was reviewed on weds. that is a step in the right direction. oh...just fyi....when i began to tear up and thank the lady profusely on the 13th i explained t her that she was the most helpful and understanding person that i had spoken with during this entire event. she laughed and said that she is new and the other staff tells her she will grow out of it. i hope that she doesn't.

Hi there...

Can you PLEASE let Excelsior College State Board Office know when you get your license!!!

:nurse:

Thank you !!!

I sincerely hope she does not grow out of the kindness she has in her heart! Instead, they need to put her into a position ABOVE those who tell her she will grow out of it so she can TEACH the rest how to at least act compassionate! She was, by far, the most helpful and kindest person I have dealt with there!

The others who have been there for a while? They could take lessons from the newbie!
