Hi everyone. I am trying to join the Navy Nurse Corps for FY 2014 (Oct. 2013). I know this is a bit early for a thread like this but I plan on beginning my package in January 2013 to allow maximum time to perfect my application kit. I will be graduating with my BSN May 2013 and plan on taking NCLEX shortly after. I am hoping my kit will be triple checked before I submit it to the board. I am in the process of contacting a healthcare recruiter is San Diego right now and hopefully get stuff moving along. I just wanted to post this thread for others that are also planning on applying for FY2014 commissioning. I will be sharing information as the process goes along so you guys can get an idea of timeframe of events. I know I have been on all these similar threads trolling for answers in the hopes of adequate preparation.. Hope to meet some of you with similar goals soon  Kim

I am a new grad. My recruiter have been great. She is optimistic about my chances as well because I am prior military and I am still affiliated through the reserve. I am not to confident about that either.

Good luck to you too

Did she happen to tell you how many spots there will be for this upcoming fiscal year?

She still does not know and because of military cuts it may be a small number

Well I guess time will tell. My recruiter said that an automatic way to get commissioned is to get a few months of either icu or go into Psyc nursing as there is a need for both specialties. Psyc nursing has always interested me but I don't know if I want to start there as it is a common thing to hear from professors that specializing as a new grad in Psyc will keep you in Psyc forever.

it is hard to get ICU as a new grad but I got a PCU position and hopefully ill work in ICU soon.

guelnrn,

I am from Baltimore, and my recruiter is there as well.

So for you new grads, is this the only thing you are banking on, or have you applied to some civilian jobs as well? I know depending on the specialty, the board meets more or less frequent.

When I was with my recruiter on Friday, and I asked about the numbers for 2014, he told me that they wouldn't be released until OCT 1 or sometime around then. One thing that I can say I have experienced different, from reading all the stories about your recruiters, is that my recruiter has been easy to deal with and he has made this process simple.

vinstafa: I will be applying to civilian jobs as well just in case, but out here in California, they do not accept applications until you pass your NCLEX. I am still waiting on my ATT to set a date for NCLEX. I am glad your recruiter has made it simple. My old recruiter was a nightmare, but the one I have now is really good. Most of our work now seems to just be retracing the steps with the old recruiter and just fixing errors and improving areas that need to be improved on. For example, I interviewed with two LCDRs with my old recruiter and got an 8 and a 10. My current recruiter was not content with that 8 and set up another interview with one of his higher ranking friends who is a captain and I scored well. This is just one example of polishing the kit I have. We're working from the San Diego Navy Medical Center so there are a lot of Navy resources there, which I'm sure is the case in Baltimore. He put in 37 DA nurses last fiscal year and is supposedly the top nurse recruiter on the west coast. This keeps me hopeful as he seems to really know what he is doing (compared to the first recruiter at least).

At least you were able to know what you got, all my recruiter told me was that they were very good and didn't give me anymore information about it.

When do you plan on submitting you kit?

we will be going over the kit in detail one last time next week. nit surenof the date yet though. you?

The plan is to have it back to the PM before sometime mid September, make sure everything is good to go and see if no new forms have be added to or changed for the new FY, and submit it to the board 1 OCT. I was told that there was no reason why I shouldn't make it to the first board. In April the program manager was slow and I never made it to boards; then I was notified that all the 1960 spots were filled and I had to wait until October.
