FY2014 Navy Nurse Corps Direct Accession

Hi everyone. I am trying to join the Navy Nurse Corps for FY 2014 (Oct. 2013). I know this is a bit early for a thread like this but I plan on beginning my package in January 2013 to allow maximum time to perfect my application kit. I will be graduating with my BSN May 2013 and plan on taking NCLEX shortly after. I am hoping my kit will be triple checked before I submit it to the board. I am in the process of contacting a healthcare recruiter is San Diego right now and hopefully get stuff moving along. I just wanted to post this thread for others that are also planning on applying for FY2014 commissioning. I will be sharing information as the process goes along so you guys can get an idea of timeframe of events. I know I have been on all these similar threads trolling for answers in the hopes of adequate preparation.. Hope to meet some of you with similar goals soon  Kim

guelnrn, I'm not sure how it works with new grads getting in via the DA route. I'm sure it is possible, but I have no idea. I have heard my recruiter tell me in the past that people he couldn't get in NCP, waited until they passed the NCLEX, and got in via DA.

I'm right there with you about having anxiety; even with my experience and my certifications, I still got the feeling from my recruiter that I was like 50/50. It didn't help looking at my recruiters white board and seeing he had 8 kits he is submitting for 1960 in October.

I spent almost three hours there yesterday, and we had to update all my paperwork. We literally went through the entire checklist and updated everything. He told me that my medical was good for 2 years and that was the only thing he didn't need to update. He even e-mailed my references back to my work asking them to rewrite my references and pre-filled them with yesterdays date, so they would be within 6 months.

Hey guys, I am out of SD as well and still eligible for the NCP. I did all my physicals/interviews/references etc back in November. The only thing the old recruiter of mine said I had to do for this upcoming cycle was a phone interview which I did. Are you saying that I will have to update more things because they are out of date??

dolphins,

I would double check with the new recruiter just to make sure. Maybe my recruiter was being super cautious, but he wanted everything within 6 months of 10/1, except the physical. The last thing you want is for anything to delay getting your kit to the board.

Yea I definitely will tomorrow.. I really hope my stuff is still good cause the program opens SEP 1..

Any word on the exact date the first board will meet?

Why was there a need for a phone interview? I have done 2 interviews for DA but was never told a phone interview was part of the kit...

You are allowed one phone interview, but the other one has to be in person.

vinstafa: oh ok i got it. I ended up doing both in person... Where is your recruiter located?

GulelnRN,

Is this the first time u applying?

Male nurse: yes it is... I started the process as ncp but my recruiter switched me over to DA because I was too late and all the spots for ncp last year. What about you?

GuelnRN,

It is my first time also. I am just worried about how many spot they will have available

Are you a new grad as well? What's your experience been like with your recruiter? Is he optimistic about your chances? My recruiter keeps implying I have nothing to worry about but how can I believe that haha... Especially with all the information on here about the arguing experiences of applicants... Good luck!
