FY2014 Navy Nurse Corps Direct Accession

Hi everyone. I am trying to join the Navy Nurse Corps for FY 2014 (Oct. 2013). I know this is a bit early for a thread like this but I plan on beginning my package in January 2013 to allow maximum time to perfect my application kit. I will be graduating with my BSN May 2013 and plan on taking NCLEX shortly after. I am hoping my kit will be triple checked before I submit it to the board. I am in the process of contacting a healthcare recruiter is San Diego right now and hopefully get stuff moving along. I just wanted to post this thread for others that are also planning on applying for FY2014 commissioning. I will be sharing information as the process goes along so you guys can get an idea of timeframe of events. I know I have been on all these similar threads trolling for answers in the hopes of adequate preparation.. Hope to meet some of you with similar goals soon  Kim

navywifeRN: My recruiter told me last year that the numbers didn't come out until late October, early November time. I don't know how that's possible since the board met before then, but that's what he said. What are you applying to(speciality)?

Thanks gulnrn and vinstafa! Will do! Goodluck to everyone! Keep us posted!

I am also anxiously awaiting to hear the number of slots available this year...I don't know if that is going to make it better or worse...

There's a way to find out how many slots are available?! where and how? lol

vinstafa: My recruiter told me that the numbers will be released at the beginning of the FY, so I am expecting a call from him on the first of October. It may take a few days, who knows, but in my mind, I have convinced myself that I will be informed on that day :-) I currently work postpartum, nursery/nicu, and labor & delivery. I am not necessarily hellbent on staying in this specialty however, I will do it if it gets me in the Navy! Therefore, I am applying with the specialty of labor & delivery however, my recruiter also said that I will be considered for general nursing (med/surg) as well. I only have 6 months post BSN experience so if my experience (or lack there of) will be enough to get me into the specialty of L&D. At the end of the day, my main goal is to be an officer in the Navy Nurse Corps!!!

Raider 3/1: I am (not so) patiently awaiting to hear the numbers from my recruiter. He said they are "supposed" to be released on October 1st.

vinstafa: Also, last year there were only 6 slots for L&D and I believe there were 34 slots for general nursing (med/surg). I am just keeping my fingers crossed that my packet is accepting at the first boards...I don't mind which specialty...just as long as it is accepted!

navywife, I would be totally surprised if the numbers actually come out on the first. I mean, nothing really has happened the way they say it is supposed to, or in the time frame it is supposed to. But hey, I guess anything could happen lol.

I wouldn't be surprised either, but I am hoping that they will!

So, is everyone good to go come Tuesday?

Recruiter is supposedly calling me tomorrow with an update. I hope everything is ready to go. Anyone else

I'm 99.99% positive my packet is good to go. I'm supposed to hear from my recruiter today to get the confirmation. I can only imagine how busy he is however, in my mind I am the only one he is working with...

On another note, I am getting better with my run!! My push ups on the other hand are coming along a bit more slowly....

My kit is being sent to the PM tomorrow, and I am hoping that process takes only a few days. Not sure how confident I am with that though, as they were the ones that delayed me going to the boards in April and missing my shot last FY.
