Hi everyone. I am trying to join the Navy Nurse Corps for FY 2014 (Oct. 2013). I know this is a bit early for a thread like this but I plan on beginning my package in January 2013 to allow maximum time to perfect my application kit. I will be graduating with my BSN May 2013 and plan on taking NCLEX shortly after. I am hoping my kit will be triple checked before I submit it to the board. I am in the process of contacting a healthcare recruiter is San Diego right now and hopefully get stuff moving along. I just wanted to post this thread for others that are also planning on applying for FY2014 commissioning. I will be sharing information as the process goes along so you guys can get an idea of timeframe of events. I know I have been on all these similar threads trolling for answers in the hopes of adequate preparation.. Hope to meet some of you with similar goals soon Kim
Don't lose hope yet...this is only day 1. I am hoping that our process isn't delayed for too long.
I don't suppose anyone knows how long the government shut down will last? When it does start up again I wonder if there going to be a "bottle neck" affect that will delay commissions and open slot numbers, etc.
Just from what yahoo news has been telling me, veterans and other service members trying to obtain disability claims will be delayed up to 6 months, give or take. Again, I just wonder if that's going to be the same case with commissions into the military and other sectors.
You all...we must stay positive. There are always changes. Those who can hold on through the storm will prosper. I am ready for this to be over with, but I have been waiting since February. What's another few weeks? I haven't heard anything from my recruiter except my packet was complete and ready to be submitted. When I hear anything, I will post it. TTYL.
I was told that the program managers were in office, but their processor has been furloughed. My recruiter also said that the PM will not look at any kits until it gets the ok from their processor, once returned from being furloughed. Love, I'm staying positive, just trying to lighten a crappy situation.

I apologize, I wasn't trying to cause any drama I was just simply trying to start some Q&A on the subject. Just wanted to hear what other people had to stay on the matter. Besides, my own commissioning (if it ever happens) wont be till around 2016. By then we might be in another war and the military back to starving for RN's. Oh and a fully functioning and agreeable government hahahaha.

All we can do is try to lighten the situation. It is out of our control. Hopefully not too much longer..ideally sooner rather than later :-)
If I hear anything, I will be sure to let y'all know!

vinstafa: for some reason I am unable to reply to your pm. I just got off the phone with my recruiter. He said that the Navy hasn't even released the "numbers" yet or if they are even going to accept any direct accessions this year! He said that he is standing by and simply waiting. So as of now, everything is kinda put on hold due to the government shut down. I guess that we are in a state of limbo right now. What about you? Have you heard from your recruiter at all?
