I have been following the thread for FY 2013 Air Force nursing and realize that many of the clinical nurses, including myself, were made alternates for FY 2014. The only information I have received from my recruiter is that I will find out sometime in April or May if I am selected or not. Has anyone received more detailed information about the upcoming boards? What is the likelihood of selection for us alternates?

I am also interested to hear from anyone currently serving as a clinical nurse in the Air Force who can describe the day-to-day life and current news regarding the nursing specialty. I am 28 years old, have been an acute care RN at a level I facility since 2008, served seven years in the Army National Guard, and am a family man with two children. My wife, also an RN, and I are excited that I am an "alternate" for FY 2014 because it seems likely I will be selected. We have anxieties about active duty because I have never served on active duty.

Definitely hoping for January!!

I am hoping for January. Where would I learn about the customs?

I am hoping to go in May, but of course I'll take what I can get. I want my husband to be able to finish up his semester of school.

I don't know if you can prepare for the ropes course if you're afraid of heights...Would exposing yourself to similar obstacles now, make it easier when you're at COT? I honestly can't even remember the confidence course at basic training. Candi, you made it through that, so I'm positive you can make it through the course at COT. I on the other hand love that kind of stuff! I just did my first Tough Mudder back in August. It was awesome! Candi, maybe you could try something like that... :)

I noticed too that you can not access the old COT website. I finally found the new website with the information but you have to register for the website. I haven't registered yet but it will not let me see the COT dates or list without registering. Here it is for the ones that need it. Air Force OTS :: OTS Foundation Portal I hope this helps and congrads.

To All those waiting,

Good luck. My spouse is prior military and says to get prepared for the physical. The higher the score the better. I have to say that I am not as nervous as I was in March. If it is to be, it will be. Good luck everyone.

Air Force Customs and Courtesies

Here is a link to some very basic customs and courtesies. Might some interesting reading for some of you with no military experience and for those of us who have been away from the military for a while

I can't believe that we should have answers in two weeks!!! :D

My recruiter just e-mailed me this!!!

"The shutdown has had no effect on AD military so it is still business as usual.

The board started on the first and results were estimated to be released on the 21st, but the program manager sent an email yesterday that the board has completed and results were given. The program manager sent the names to the general yesterday for signature so notification should be out any day now."

Oh, come on. Don't jerk me around like this! I was looking through old emails, and my first email from my recruiter came on September 11, 2012...13months ago. Anyway, let me know when you hear something so that I can bug my recruiter.

I have been running this thing in my mind...how the recruiter would tell me if I am in or not. It is going to be interesting.... come on 21st!

Aliseel25's post seems to imply that results will be out sooner...possibly by early next week? I had to read it a couple of times for it to sink in.

aliseel25,

Thank you for your post! This forum is most useful when we share information we receive from recruiters or other sources. What your recruiter told you is in line with what my recruiter told me when she drove me to my chief nurse interview. My recruiter told me that there is a new program manager who is "on it" and has been getting things done ahead of schedule. Do the recruiter have the ability to see the list of names that were sent to the general by chance?? Do you think our recruiters know if we are in or not but won't tell us until it is finalized or until the 21st?

jfratian,

I can relate to your frustration. My first communications with my recruiter was 9/18/12. We have been at this Air Force commission so long!

All my recruiter told me is " when I hear something, I will immediately inform you"...but he has also kept telling me that the date would be Oct 21st.
