Hi everyone! So I'm currently in nursing school & I will be graduating in August 2017 with my BSN. Anyone else applying for the July selection boards? I've already submitted all of my paperwork/LOR's, and my recruiter said that my CN interview is going to be within the next 3 weeks...so exciting! I've read a ton of forums from people that have applied for NTP in the past, and they seem to be very insightful/encouraging...so I just figured I'd reach out and see who else might be applying this year! :)

You better get used to figuring out vague acronyms if you are planning on joining a branch of the military.

Add your number of slots vs applicants question to your list of questions to ask the recruiter when you meet.

Specializes in Emergency.

I'm all submitted for the first boards of the FY 2018. Can't remember if it's July or August but I was told I won't hear back until the middle of September.

I'm applying as a fully qualified ER nurse "J". I've had MEPS, have all my papers in, and have done my Col Nurse interviews! Now to wait anxiously for 3.5 months! Was told there are only 15 spots for ER nurses!

Hoping for the best and good luck yo everyone! It's a very exciting ride!

Does any one have an idea of what a competitive candidate looks like? I understand that you would need at least a 3.7 GPA but what are some other aspects that are sought after in Air Force NTP applicants? I would assume that prior military experience would be an advantage.

Did your recruiter give you a breakdown of the interview questions? Mine followed that and then asked additional questions. She asked what the air force mission was, the core values, how I felt about guns, how I thought the Nurse Corps fits in with the big Air Force and so on.

My GPA for my BSN was 3.8 but my cumulative is only 3.2 I want to say. She said that she saw a big improvement in my grades in the more recent classes I had taken and didn't count that against me.

Hey everyone! I just found this thread, so I'm a little late with offering information, as our packages have been submitted. Eeeks! I am also applying for the Med/Surg NTP this FY (Fiscal Year) 2018. The fiscal (financial) year for DoD (Department of Defense) and other government funded organizations is October to October, so you are applying for a position that will be paid for by funds allocated toward the 2018 budget. If you are selected and your COT date is in October, you will be then be in the 2018 FY. ;]

I wish you all good luck! Air Power!!

My recruiter told me that there are around 60 applicants for the NTP this year and 25 Med/Surg positions being filled. He also told me all selectees will attend COT 8Jan18. If anyone has additional or differing information, I'd love to hear/talk about it.

I read in a past thread how the members of the selection board can have different views on what elements of an individual's package are deemed most important. One may require a certain GPA as their standard to begin "racking-and-stacking", while others may use Chief Nurse interview scores or a history or prior service. The great thing about a board selection process is that it is subjective to the board members when ranking them, but objective to the material in your package.

In my opinion (only an opinion), I think a competitive candidate will be a well-rounded one. I presume the board members are looking for individuals who display a pattern of exemplifying the Air Force Core Values throughout their day-to-day lives and coursework. I would like to think other sought after aspects include examples of leadership and selfless service. I can see where prior service could be an advantage, as Veterans may help ease the transition from civilian to Active Duty for fellow selectees, but other areas of their package may be weak; you never know.

Another opinion I have is that a high GPA will get your foot in the door to compete, but it's what you do different in the other areas of your package that will make you stand out. Ultimately, you are in control of how strong your package is!

**Also, my understanding is that the Chief Nurse interview holds substantial weight in the selection process, but have read different within these forums. I would ask your recruiter for accurate information.

Hi Everyone,

I'm a current accelerated BSN student in my first semester, so I'll be applying to NTP in next year's round of boards. Can anybody offer a timeline for when they completed certain aspects of their packages for this year? I want to make sure that I'm on top of all I need to be so that there's no delay in my application come Feb/March 2018.

Am I correct in understanding that if I am graduating with my BSN in August of 2018, that I can still be considered with the July 2018 boards, even though I haven't yet taken my NCLEX? I will be taking it sometime in late September/early October with the rest of my cohort post graduation.

Also, can you apply to OR, OB, and Med/Surg if you want?

MightyLiz I got started with my paperwork on about April 10, had MEPS April 20 something then submitted the last of my application paperwork and had my chief nurse interview about May 10. It only went that fast because I have a good recruiter and didn't need any waivers. I'd talk to your recruiter and get started with paperwork by March or earlier if you think you will need a waiver of any kind.

Hoping to get a call tomorrow about whether I selected or not.

As for the August graduation, always ask your recruiter for the definite answer but these threads have a few August grads in them so it's probably ok.

Hello, I too have applied for this years NTP. Has anyone heard back from their recruiters with answers? I have been anxiously waiting.

Haven't heard yet. I was told it should be this week... which means tomorrow! Hoping that's the case!

My recruiter informed me that due some technical difficulties the decision has been delayed a few more weeks.
