Future Kaiser Students?

Published

Hello from a new member!!! I am really enjoying browsing this board.

I know interviews started this week at Kaiser. Has anyone here interviewed? If so, how did it go? Mine is next week, I think I'm probably last. Any responses from future or current students would be great!

Thanks!

thanks for all the info. pasadena looks like a nice place to live. i'm going to be looking for a studio apt there. that's great that the fullerton teacher comes to you! how was the project/thesis thing? is it done in the first or second year? do you have time to get enough sleep? i don't want to be driving long distances sleep deprived. do you carpool to clinical sites to ease the driving? i am taking your advice and getting my car in shape now. i really appreciate the tips.

If anyone lives in the Valley and wants to set up carpooling, I'm into it! (I have a good car and a massive CD collection) Cheaper and environmentally sound! For all of you moving out here, be sure to look into other areas around Pasadena for housing. Eagle Rock is cheaper, only 5 minutes away and pretty groovy. Plus, you should consider that Pasadena is not the most central as far as clinical rotations go... I actually think that my little spot in the Valley is pretty darn good! It's right between a couple of clinical sites (Panorama City and Woodland Hills) and only 20-30 minutes from many others (both Hollywood sites, West L.A., and UCLA). There are really nice areas around me such as Sherman Oaks which is right off the 101 and 405 freeways and next to Ventura Boulevard which has all the shopping, markets and restaurants one could ask for. Plus, it's probably cheaper than Pasadena... Anyhow, I've lived in L.A. my whole life and in many different areas, so if anyone wants to know, maybe I can help.

Can't wait to meet you all!!!

:balloons: Congratulations to all! :balloons:

Honolulu is great. We pay for our own airfare, rental car and food. They give us a nice 1 bedroom apt downtown. Overlooks the city and ocean. The clinical site is nice. I loved all of the staff, they were fun to work with.

Kaiser employees do not get priority in getting in the school. Qualified people who get along with others well, do.

To all who got accepted into Kaiser, congrats. All of you sound like a great bunch of people and I wish I could be there with you to celebrate. As for me, I just stopped licking my wounds. Unfortunately, I only applied to one program (Kaiser) and did not get in. I scored high on my GPA and interview according to the Kaiser folks but the competition was brutal. However, being the person that I am, I will NEVER, EVER, GIVE UP!!!! After 10 years, I am finally at a point in my life, both financially and family wise (kids growing up) where I can pursue my dream of becoming a CRNA and I will not stop until I have achieved my objective!

If there is a lesson to be learned here, it is to apply to more than one school and be flexible. Anyway, I look forward to reading about your progress at Kaiser and I hope to be celebrating with all of you next year.

NEVER, NEVER, NEVER Give up!

Laser;

Call Sass or Michael. Ask them for a short meeting to review your application and ask them how you can make your application stronger for next year. They will be honest with you AND you will get your name in front of them. They need to see how dedicated you are.

I know this is the best school. We scored in the top 10 in the country last year in US NEWS and WORLD REPORT, Our director recieved Director of the Year last year, Our director is John Nagelhout: he writes many of the books all the other schools teach you from, Kaiser gives you access to 19 of their hospitals (all very different), Kaiser provides you, the student, health care while in school, the instructors want you to understand and suceed; they are not trying to get you to fail as are other schools. (no names).

That is among so very many more reasons. Don't give up!

This from a Sr who is sick and tired of school and about to graduate!

WHEW! But its worth it!

Just a question to anyone currently a student at Kaiser...Do you have a laptop and if so what do you use it for? in class? for projects? I was thinking of getting an Ibook. Do most people have laptops? Also, is it true that the cost of all our books and health insurance is included in the price of our tuition? Thanks!

the money you paid up front covers most all your books (anesthesia) still got fullerton stuff.

i have a laptop/ makes it easier to get work done if you travel and spend the night for clinical (i crash at a friends so i dont have to drive 1.5 hours one way to clinical. also alot of lectures are placed on the web, fullerton has wireless setup so it helps some if you take i there to do work. gotta have a good internet connection ie dsl cable. some files are pretty big, plus always searching for research articles. health insurance provided, does not cover family and i dont think you can add a rider for them, at least it was that way for me.

laser, i know how i would have felt in your shoes.i admire your attitude. i hope this just strengthens your resolve and hope to meet you next year at school. hang in there.

gasspassah and qwiigley, thanks for giving us info from the pros. it helps knowing that people actually attending school feel it is a great program. the anticipation and not having any official info or schedule is tough. you can tell patience is not my strong suit. i realize there are months before school starts but with all the changes looming ahead it seems like it's coming on quickly.

susswood and geecue, can't wait to meet you guys. we are going to have a fun class, i can tell. appreciate knowing that some locals are there to help with the adjustment moving to LA. it looks like a nice place to live. hope i survive the freeway system.
