Future Kaiser Students?

Published

Hello from a new member!!! I am really enjoying browsing this board.

I know interviews started this week at Kaiser. Has anyone here interviewed? If so, how did it go? Mine is next week, I think I'm probably last. Any responses from future or current students would be great!

Thanks!

I think fear is a good thing...keeps you on your toes and motivates you to go the extra mile. Of course you are scared, it is a very different role than in critical care and a higher level of responsibility. Best of luck to you, I'm sure you'll do great.

kdst and tdog are you the 2 ladies from hawaii joined at the hip? :)

oh my, what a small world, how did you know? got quite a grapevine going in that school i see. too funny.

Speaking of fear, I recently had this wave of panic..."oh S**T what have I done, can I really do this!!!???? Am I really prepared....am I good enough, smart enough...???!!!!" It's nice to know we can all go in together, hopefully with some of the same feelings.

It will be fun to meet you guys!!!

Anyone else in we haven't met yet?

I am cracking up! How did you know, Gaspassah? We have been "joined" since going through our ICU class 10 years ago! I can't believe how news travels! Were you in our interview? Looking forward to meeting you! :chuckle

Yo Peeps,

Congrats to the high rollers who got in. Guess I'll be seeing you in class...I got my letter of acceptance last week! I'm still floating in cloud nine. I made my buddy across the street check the mail while I was at work. When he told me I got in...I yelled so loud I think I woke up every ICU patient on the unit. It's going to be fun to be a class with a bunch of over acheivers.

Let the games begin....!

Yo Gaspassah.... thanks for everything bro.

belated congrats gee cue. I'm not sure about being an over achiever, but i sure as @#$@ am a control freak! and as such, i would love to know more about what we are in for in the next 2 years in terms of basics, like when exactly does school start and where? fullerton or pasadena or both? where is the best place to live if you are moving from out of state and such. because i am! don't get me wrong, i am thrilled to be lucky enough to be having these anxieties, but any details that any one might know would be appreciated. :uhoh3:

Where to live? The first semester you are in the classroom 5 days a week in Pasadena. (pasadena is the most central point) Our class used to go to Fullerton once a week, but since then Kaiser purchased a teleconferencing machine and the Fullerton instructors contact us thru that. If necessary, the instructor will drive to Pasadena. After all, there is 35 of us and 1 of them!

Your clinical sites are all over the place. You will put a lot of miles on your car. Plan on it. Get it in good shape now. Inspect belts, hoses, etc. Get new tires, etc, etc. You have to get there, you have no choice. Right before Christmas you will start clinicals. You will go to one place Dec, Jan, Feb. The next rotation is also 3 months. After that, you change sites every month. I live in Ventura, my sites were: Panarama City, Riverside, Hollywood, W. LA, UCLA, Riverside Co., Honolulu, Bellflower, Woodland Hills, Hollywood, San Diego. In that order. I graduate very soon and thank goodness, my car now has 140,000 miles on it. Friday I had not one, but TWO flat tires. That brings up AAA. Be sure to get it, you'll need it.

Housing; there are 2 Sr students that will be leaving their apt near school. PM me and I'll give you there email address. Nice place. 2 bed, 2 bath.

Congrats all!

Lastly, Sandra will email all of you with everyone in your class email address. (Everything is done by email; class changes the day of sometimes) CHECK DAILY. You can look for a room mate, etc.

:balloons: Good Luck and congrats!

Rest now, you won't have any more time for 24 straight months.

Qwiigs!

Hawaii Kaiser is looking to hire several CRNAs.

Hey Qwiig,

How was Honolulu? Could you please PM me the specifics? I'm considering requesting it...Many thanks. Good to hear the end is near for you. Woo-hoo!

I heard school will start at the end of August...and probably start with the class from Cal-state Fullerton. The tele-conferencing that Qwiigley was mentioning about is new to me...but makes sense. I'm in the same boat as you KDST....though I live here in southern cal....I plan on moving to Pasadena since the majority of our classes are there at the start. My next dilemma is whether to buy a new car or not?? Right now...my car runs really well....but it has already 125,000 miles on it :( Do I take the gamble and keep it since I have no car payments on it (car paid for) or do I go ahead and get another new (newer) car that will be reliable for the next two years??? Since the housing costs in Pasadena are an 'arm and leg'... keeping my ol car would enable me to have more $$$ to spend on living costs? What Qwiigley said about his recommendations are all very good....especially the AAA.

Let me know if any of you guys are needing a roomate. I plan on looking for a place there a couple months before school starts.

Is it easier to get accepted to the Kaiser CRNA program if I become an employee of Kaiser? Do they have seats reserved for Kaiser nurses?

thanks
