Future Kaiser Students?

there are a wide range of students in my class, some with one years icu exp, to 19 yrs icu.
grades 3.2 to 4.0
the most important i feel is your impression in the interview.
yes you need the minimums, but the faculty can usually pick applicants based on potential. not just paper.

My interview was today. Initially I thought that it went well. As I drove home I got more and more nervous. It was only about 10 minutes long. I was told they would take 35 students. They rank the students 1-35 and take 6 alternates. Anyone know how many interviewed?

I think 80 people were interviewed. I wouldn't worry about the length, I was told it was a 10-15 minute interview. Quality not quantity!!!! Don't second guess yourself! I guess we'll all know in a few weeks. I feel great about my interview, who knows!?!? Keep posting, I'm interested to know! :rolleyes:

Of those of you who were granted an interview- what are your stats. I'm going this thursday to find out why I wasn't asked for an interview and would like to know what I need to be on top of the general public as well as what they want. Quickly, I have a 3.7 BSN gpa, 3 yrs neuro ICU experience at UC San Francisco, and unfortunately, already have an MSN. :uhoh21:

My stats:

4.0 GPA

1 year Pediatrics

4 years E.R. (not preferable, I know...)

3 kick-ass letters of recommendation (not just filling out those one-page forms, but with very complementary long letters attached)

Good to know! I felt I had really good letters of reference, but I'm sure an added freeform page is much better. Did you also have a CCRN etc?

My best friend interviewed at Kaiser's program. She was impressed with the panel and the interview process. I too would like to apply in the next year. Where do most of the Kaiser grads end up working? It's my understanding that a graduate is not obligated to work for Kaiser....but if the new grad wants to work for Kaiser, are they automatically offered a position?

the key to being hired by kaiser if you are a kaiser student is to perform well, show you are a team player, and are teachable. your last 3 month rotation is more or less your choice and most ppl choose the rotation where they would most like to work. usually the student is offered a position in their senior year if the hospital is interested.

I know interviews started this week at Kaiser. Has anyone here interviewed? If so, how did it go? Mine is next week, I think I'm probably last. Any responses from future or current students would be great!

Just curious...in your past posts you sounded so positive and happy with your program, but there was this one recent post where it sounded like there were more students than could be accomodated, and the preceptors sounded a bit unforgiving....were you just having a tough day (or week)? i am hoping to be starting in august, should find out this week. Appreciate you sharing your experiences, thanks.

no not down at all. i actually have been having some really good experiences. my preceptors have been very teaching oriented and not pimp oriented.

about the students, at the facility i started in, there were maybe 3 students too many. however, since i had mondays off for jan, i chose to do an extra day of clinical to cover more cases. the cases at the first facility tend to be big and long. thus you dont get to do many cases. in the first 2 months i have 55 cases with a week to go before rotation change. should end up with 60 to 65 for the first 2 months.

i have to admit i put in alot of time to prepare for clinicals. i study my drugs, cases, anesthetic conciderations for each case, i ask alot of questions of my preceptors, i take each day as a test day. with the level of preparation i take i think it keeps me ahead of the game and gives the preceptors less reason to pimp me.

on the other hand there are some ppl i have heard some are having a harder time than others.

I'm glad to hear how well it is going. No doubt all that hard work will pay off. The Kaiser decision letters were to be mailed today,so we should all know soon. Keep up the good work!
