Fundamentals Nursing Outlines?

I was asking where do people get outlines ( usually condensed, gets rid of fluff ) for Fundamentals of Nursing? I see people talking about it on youtube, but when I do a search, hard to find. Some say they used ,"Knowledge check outlines." I cannot find these anywhere.

A side note, how did you guys study for fundamentals? My prof's power points are pretty bad. They just have a term or word with no definition or anything. Some people say, don't read the book....others say just read the first sentence of each chapter and bolded words only....

I haven't heard of any outlines you can just download for fundementals. I mean, there are some book series out there that provide condensed explanations of topics like the _______ Made Incredibly Easy or ______ De-Mystified. I'm going to assume they have fundementals editions. And perhaps the knowledge check outlines are made by those students' programs? I know mine gives us general topics that we should be focusing our attention on for each modules, whatever the professor finds most important. Most of my class use those as a framework for reading and making notes.

I imagine the people who said not to read the book had professors with good PowerPoints. If the PowerPoints aren't at all helpful to you and you don't have any type of objectives, you're going to need to read the book, I imagine, and take notes.

Online materials will only help if you're searching for specific topics. It would be impossible to find a complete series that covers everything your professor deems most important. Read the assigned reading and, if necessary, search youtube for topics you find challenging.

then underneath that, just say Orem's thoery( However, with no definition etc ).

One slide just says

Caregiver, comforter, cummunicator, educator, and manager, with patient advocate in RED. No definitions, or roles just those words.

Does anyone find these power points odd? People who had this prof said they didn't really read the book.....but looking at the powerpoints, I am not sure. So, I was looking for condensed versions of chapter or something.

Is there a lecture component to this class? In which case, I wouldn't find those powerpoints too odd, as they would be perfectly find to guide a lecture in which the professor is discussing each area in more detail.

If they didn't read the book, then those people probably used notes from someone who did read, bought a book like the De-Mystified series, or just looked up all the information online and learned it via websites and Youtube. You have to figure out what's easiest for you. Though for some of it, I think it's just easier to read/skim the book than trying to determine if you are getting out of another text what the professor wants you to get.

What textbooks does your school use? my school uses Elsevier textbooks and there are free chapter summaries for the textbooks online that can be printed and other resources. My school also has a guide for each course so you should try checking your schools resources.

@Apmarquez, we use perry and potter, but they are linked to elsevier, like the EAQ etc. Where did you find the chapter summaries? Did you use resources for the fundamentals, we use 9th edition? I tried resources but just found questions and rationales. Just curious to see where you find them, might have skipped it.

The chapter summaries for me were on the same page where the questions are found. I found the chapters in student resources on evolve.Elsevier and then clicked on the chapters that i needed for that particular textbook.

I've always made my own outlines. Read the chapter, take away the fluff, study the important stuff.

I've found higher education requires a lot of self-teaching. If the power points don't have a lot of information on them, you'll have to fill in the blanks using your textbook.

I'd purchased a few NCLEX books for the practice questions. At the front of each section is a great outline that simplifies topics covered in various text books.

My recommendation is that you study by looking up the words and concepts that are on your powerpoints in your textbook.

You don't really need to read the textbook page for page, but you do need to look stuff up in it. Or skim the chapters. I do not recommend getting books not required or recommended by your instructor. You need to know what's important for this class.

One method would be to print the power point before class. Write in your definitions, etc where you can and put a red line where you can't or are confused. As your prof is going over the powerpoint, check your info against what she says, and write in notes. Fill in your red lines as prof speaks and ask questions as necessary.

Oddly enough, I found the Saunders nclex to be a great overview of my fundamentals class. It surpasses all the fluff and gets straight to the point!
