Hi, everyone & Happy Holidays! I'm thinking of taking a job offer as a clinical technician while reviewing for the NCLEX-RN. At the same time, I have a rambunctious 4 year old son to take care of. Does your sanity stay intact with a full time job, kids, hubby, and the pressure of studying for the NCLEX? :uhoh3: Any survival tips / sage advice? Thank you, I would really appreciate it. :nurse:

Well, as for me I have a husband, daughter 8, and nephew 6 to take care of while studying for the NCLEX and that's enough for me right there. :uhoh3: LOL, I decided not to work while in nursing school, and right now while I'm studying for the boards. I just want to have the time to study and focus more. Now I do have a friend who has two kids and a boyfriend, who was studying for the NCLEX and she worked full-time as a nurse technician, and she took her boards passed it first time. She told me she think working as a nurse tech actually helped her more on the boards. I hope that helps, good luck!

2 kids, a full time job AND reviewing? Wow. You sure your friend's human? :) Thanks, sheila. I haven't started working yet and already, the pressure is overwhelming me. I guess if other mom can do it, I can too:o

You need to put other responsibilities on the back burner while you prep for NCLEX. That doesn't mean ignore them, just reprioritize. If possible, put off the job until after the exam. Good luck.

Hang in there! I had a full-time tech job and a 3 year-old while I was studying. I had to be very efficient. None of these 8 hour-a-day study plans. I ended up using 3 different books (Saunders, Lippincott q&a, and exam cram). When I started studying, i took a calendar and wrote all the topics I needed to review on different days until the big day. Every day I would schedule an assignment of at least 50 questions from one of the books. Once a week I took a long (100 question) test. By using the different books I was really able to see different approaches to different topics and also get some understanding of what the hot topics are. Lets be honest, your kiddo is always going to come first. And money can be tight (believe me, I know). By studying just that little bit every day I ended up taking the exam and passing with 75 questions on the first try (in 30 minutes!). Something to be said for efficient studying.

Got the nurse tech job: 12hrs a day, 3 times a week in the Telemetry unit. Thank you all, for the tips and encouragement! [
