Full day CPR course--what to expect

Published

I signed up for a full day course in First Aid/CPR offered by Red Cross. If anyone has taken a similar course, can you tell me what to expect? What will I learn in the course? What will I be qualified to do when I'm finished? The letter I got after signing up for the class warned that the class is "physically demanding"--how physically demanding? It also advises women not to wear skirts. I never wear pants and don't plan to start for this class. I will wear a skirt that's comfortable that I don't mind if it gets dirty. Can anyone explain why skirts should not be worn?

Specializes in Pediatric Pulmonology and Allergy.

Just poorfect--where did you take the course? Mine cost $95!

Mine was $35, too. The book that we bought for the class was about $16, but we never even opened it.

I took mine at the community college that runs the nursing program. It was done through the AHA.

$35.00 included the book. American Red Cross, St. Joseph, Missouri.

How many years ago? I wonder why they're charging me such a steep price. Maybe it's because I signed up for the full deal: First aid plus child and adult CPR. If I had taken just one of the three the price would have been lower.

Just 2 weeks ago. Cpr for Adult, Child and Infant with the AED. First Aid was not required.

First off IMO this will be 8 hours of pain for you. I hated the class. you are on your knees all day long pounding on a dummy's hard chest. the next day i was hurting all over and i am in shape work out 3 days a week. Make sure your school take the red cross and i would find a program that is a 2 year not a one year certificate. they are out there you just have to hunt. good luck

I've never heard of anyone not accepting the American Red Cross CPR certification. That is rather strange and I'm not sure I believe it.

I have not seen a one day class for brand new CPR/First Aid certification. My Red Cross CPR challenge was a full day in and of itself.

CPR certification is good for two years through the AHA and one year with the Red Cross.

Two of the nursing programs that I am applying to only accept AHA.

Must be doing the wrong kind of working out. CPR class is a breeze.

My $35 CPR class was adult and child, but did not include first aid. I took it less than 2 weeks ago.

I'm in agreement with you there.

Well, it's true....sorry! No college in any area around where I am will accept anything but AHA.....they even have instructors from AHA come to the campus where I took my nursing program from to teach BLS.......I didn't believe it either until I went to my college & was told this from the school itself.........
