Hello all! This is my first post here but i've been leafing through some of the posts the last few days.
To make a long story short I got my associates in business six years ago and have a decent job. The plan was for my dh to follow his dreams and secure a job that would allow us to not live extravigently, but not to have to worry about living paycheck to paycheck either. Well even LONGER story short, its been six years and he still hasn't taken the neccessary steps to securing that job and here we are worrying about finances every week. So i've taken matters into my own hands and decided to go back to school to persue nursing, something i've always been interested in.
I'm looking at a path that will hopefully allow me to graduate in the Spring of '12. The only thing is that I will have to take a pretty agressive courseload for someone who not only works FT, but is mom to a 3 year old. I'm in my 5th week of my first semester. I decided to start out kind of easy so I wouldn't get discouraged. I'm taking A&P I and Lifespan Psych. Next semester i'm looking at A&P II, Micro, Algebra, and Spanish I. Looking at that on paper it looks like a lot! I'm hoping to take the Algebra, Spanish, and lecture part of A&P online. I'm a total visual learner so online classes rock for me. Half of the time I don't "get" what is going on in an acutal lecture because my brain is not processing it!
It my corner I have the fact that school has always come somewhat easy for me. Not saying i'm not going to have to work my tush off but I would be more hesitant taking that many classes if I always struggled in school. I also have a Dh that is 100% supportive...90% of the time lol. He's already been warned that he is going to have to start helping out a lot more at home than he does and not to expect me to do much more than studying when ds is asleep.
I want to get through all of this while my son is still young and I'm not missing games and events because i'm in class. Phew. I guess I needed to get all that out lol.
Basically i'm just wondering if there is anyone else out there crazy enough to be a FT WOHM and a FT college student as well?

I am in the same boat, but my kids are much older. I work FT as a computer programmer (first degree is Elect. Eng). I have 5 children 15 - 23 yo. My new husband (got married Sept 6th) is very supportive.
You can do this! It can get tough and you are tired quite a bit, just remember to take care of you while you do both.
I'm right here with all of you. I work full time and have a 19 month old (hellooooo terrible twos!!!) I can cut my hours to 32/week but no less than that since my fam is on my health benefits. My dh is self employed and it would be outrageously expensive for him to try and get insurance for us all through the business.
I hear there are options for those of us who need to work through school. My first option is to try and get into one of the nursing programs in my area that is offered at night. My second option is to do what I can while at my current job and then as my clinical hours get longer, I'm gonna try and get a job as a nursing assistant. That's an option after the first year of nursing school in my area...
Good luck to everyone!!:wink2:
Hi, I am also a fulltime working mom. I am taking pre-nursing classes. I almost have mine completed though. I know all to well how it is to work fulltime and go to school. I am working as a CNA 12 hrs a day, from 7pm to 7 am. Talk about hard, but i take most of my classes on-line and that helps a lot. So all I can say is pray lon and study hard and it will work out for us working moms.
Wow, so nice to see others in my shoes.... It's been hard to connect with any of the girls in my class because I guess I am older, and I already have more education...basically have a head start.
I am searching for a job right now, was working full time. But I have a teenaged son and a disabled mother living with my husband and I whom I am responsible for.
I am taking classes for my MA right now, so I can try to work in medical in some way while going to school for nursing. I am in A&P and Clinical Pharmacology. The way the classes are being taught are very easy and I know its not going ot be anything compared to the upper level classes I need to take.
If anyone is interested in maintaining a friendship... "wingwoman" I guess, let me know.
I am going through this program and will be done by fall of 2009, during which I am also taking my pre-reqs at GMU, and hopefully will be in the BSN program in fall of 2010.
Take care.
Love to be a wingwoman my email is [email protected] feel free to email me anytime.

YOU GO!!!! You are so right.... the world would not be the same without the love and care that nurses give. Its nice to see people who want to be a nurse because of the job, not because of the money.
I encountered a nurse who apparently was in for the money... as she gave horrible care to my mother who had just had a shoulder replacement. She didn't have a kind bone in her body... so sad...

i work 20 hours a week and have been getting pre-req's done 3 classes at a time. oh...and did i mention i'm a single mommy? yep, of a beautiful and hyper 1 yr old
it's tough, let's just say i don't have much of a social life, but i have been doing great. it may just take a lot more effort than you have energy for. sometimes forcing myself to study is a challenge, but the hard work shows! if this is something you really want to do, then you will do great and i say go for it! :heartbeat
