Ft. Meade and nursing school

Published

Hi there! Are there any military or spouses on here that are stationed at Ft. Meade? We finally got the say that we will be going there so now I'm looking at prospective schools. My top choice is UMSON and then Choppin or Bowie. But I would really like to go to UMSON at Shady Grove. Does anyone stationed at Ft. Meade go there? I know it's about a 40-45 min drive so I'm looking at areas that are in the middle so my husbands and my own commute aren't so bad. Any good info on the areas would be great. Thanks guys and gals!

Welcome to Maryland ❤️

I'm not in that area, so I can't give very specific feedback. What I wanted to say, though, is check with schools you are looking at for their clinical sites, since there are a lot of places within 50 miles or less. You'd need to consider whether their furthest spot will be possible for commuting.

Also, to check into quality of school, look up on the BON's website for NCLEX pass rates.

Best wishes to you, and I hope you get some good answers that are more specific to your questions. ☺️

Thank you @ixchel, I've looked up the NCLEX pass rates which is why UMSON was my first choice. Bowie and Choppin seem to be slipping lately. I'll look into seeing where the clinical sites are. That may help alot!

Other schools to possibly consider would be Towson State (MD), catholic U, Trinity, JMU, or Howard U. Also several of the local community colleges have good nursing programs (i.e. PG, Howard, and Anne Arundel)

I have a friend who is in Howard community college's nursing program who's husband is there. She commutes about 45 min for most things but she doesn't seem bothered by it.

Thank you @Uncle Rico and @roxiroxmysox. I'm going to look into those programs as well. I would rather go to a university and get my BSN rather than another 2 years at a community college for a ASN. I'm older and spent so much time in school. LOL.
