FSW Spring 2018

Published

It's a bit early, I know. I just wanted to start a thread for all of those looking down the road planning to apply to FSW this fall for the spring 2018 program start..

I'm planning on applying to the Charlotte campus for the Evening/Weekend (ANEW) schedule format.

What campus are you planning on applying to?

What classes are you trying to finish up before applying in Sept/Oct?

What program schedule format will you be choosing (Daytime or evening/weekend)?

Did you take the TEAS VI exam and how did you do?

I look forward to the discussion over the next few months!!

That's awesome. So your schedule is going to be what Tue-thurs including clinicals? I wonder what Lee traditional schedule is because that's the one I plan to apply to in the Fall. So how was the first day like a orientation or how it will be? I seen someone on here said they were going to buy white scrubs and have them embroided I wonder how did that work or do you have to go to the place they send you? Jus wondering b/c I'm going to start saving for books now.

I'm in Lee traditional and it's either Mondays or Fridays for clinicals then one lecture day (Tuesday or Wednesday) and one practicum day which are one Thursdays. We also have one online class where we meet occasionally for tests and non-mandatory meetings for questions on the reading. I went to the place, tried on the scrubs, and she ordered them online and they call you once the embroidery is done. And yeah books are expensive!! Save now so you don't have to worry later! :-)

Hey! First semester in the traditional program is 3 days a week. You have a lecture day, a practicum or lab day, and a clinical day. Other semesters you may have an additional clinical day. Third semester you may have two days for clinical, because you're doing med/surg and OB, so you need a separate day for each. We wear the white scrubs to clinical, polo and white scrub pants to practicum, and whatever we want on lecture days. Hamilton's is the uniform place that has the logo for FSW, but if you're in the Naples area there's another place that also has the logo and can do the embroidery. First week of classes (so lecture, clinical, and practicum) is all orientation to each part of the program. They go over the expectations and syllabi and introduce the people who will be working with you throughout the semester. There's a lab coordinator that will help your professors out throughout the semester, and, in our case, three clinical professors who will be taking us to our clinical sites / helping during clinical in case we forgot a skill or have questions. Books are expensive, but you use all three even during the first semester, as well as the MyNursingLab codes. You could get the online versions of the books. Just a warning, you will have to buy more codes each semester and that's about another $500 per semester. My program is Monday - Wednesday and other campuses are also three days a week, just different days. When your first semester starts, you may or may not have the exact same days as the current group. Hope this helps!

Thanks Yaya sounds like a plan. I cannot wait to get in. I'm so excited. Did any of you take Pharmacology before entering the program? Monday -Wednesday is Great. iHope my program is Tue-Thurs that gives me the weekends to try to work an overnight shift and still study. So is work working out for everybody as well?

Specializes in SPCU/Stepdown ICU.

Unfortunately you cannot take Pharm beforehand. It is part of the program. Everyone I have talked to works so I believe it is completely doable. Good luck getting in!

Hey everybody how's your first semester going so far? 3 more weeks. I need to add everyone on my facebook page but I will wait until the semester is over. Got to stay in the loop. I'm so excited June 15 is around the corner. I'm ready to start planning :)

Are you ready to apply yet? I started a forum FSW Fall 2018 everyone has been chiming in and givng stats

I don't plan to apply to the program until Fall 2018 but could someone give me a little insight on the ANEW schedule? Or know where I can find the schedule online?

Which school did you end up getting into?

I currently live in Orlando, but I'm willing to relocate. The schools I'm applying to are UCF, Seminole State College ASN-BSN concurrent, Polk State College, Valencia ASN-BSN concurrent, FSW, and Daytona State college so far. I have been searching for schools that doesn't require chemistry since I haven't taken it (Orlando schools simply suggest chem but not required). I'm applying to all of these schools, because I believe my gpa is average 3.3-3.4 (two classes in progress) and I haven't successfully taken the TEA's yet. I want to start nursing school Spring 2018, but its so hard to get in :(

Anyone else applying to other schools?

How's it going guys. The program has been great this semester. It is pretty intense and time consuming but certainly doable even for people who work and have kids. I'm in the ANEW class out of the LEE campus and it's been a good experience so far. Man am I looking forward to summer though !! Haha

How are you liking the ANEW? Have you heard anything as far as ANEW and traditional is it the same? I think ANEW is longer than traditional. Are you excited? We got next

I have had a good experience with the ANEW program so far. It is a good learning for those students who don't mind reading and studying independently. It's also important to have good time managements since most of the learning is done offsite at home and students are expected to know the material when they come in for practicum or sim lab.

The ANEW program is the same length as the traditional program. They both are 4 months and run in the spring and fall semesters only. With this type of schedule, those students who haven't completed all of their prerequisites can finish them in the summer semesters, in between the nursing program semesters.

Hi! I'm hoping to get into the ANEW program at the Charlotte campus. Do you mind telling me what books you used for the first semester? Also, do you remember what hospitals you can choose from to do clinicals in?
