FSW Fall 2015

Published

Florida Southwestern State College formerly Edison State College. I started thread for FSW but it is full with spring applicants. So I decided to start a new one for this upcoming fall.

Who is joining me next fall in nursing?

I plan to apply for Part-time or Lee full time. I have one more semester of pre-requisites. I am taking A&P 1, Micro, College Algebra and Nutrition. Kill me now. :arghh: lol A full time semester of craziness but almost done after that hopefully with pre-requisites with the exemption of A&P 2 and a humanities class.

I plan to take the Hesi in mid Feb or march and retake if needed at the end of April. Schedule has been posted and I plan to study a lot this winter break. So excited but so nervous.

Quick question, if you have more than one earring per ear, are we required to take them off for lectures too? In handbook, it mentions lab/clinicals but it doesnt specific if its throughout the whole program. I have three on my ear lobe only. I understand I will need to take them off but I wasn't sure if it was required throughout the whole nursing curriculum.

Also, it states clinical shoes to be worn for clinical purposes, so does that mean we don't need to wear them during labs?

Got my varicella titer done today and besides flu shot, I'm done for now. I went to LMHS because my insurance wasn't going to cover my titer. Employee health nurse looked paperwork and she said everything was good.

Now I'm anxiously waiting for school to start. :)

does anyone know about how long it takes for the results from the titers and ppd to come back? I cant see my doctor until august 3rd.

I got my varicella titer today and they said usually two days. So I should have results on Monday. PPD takes two days to know. You get it then cone back to two days later.

It says in the handbook not to work more than 25hr a week if at all possible. I work around 27hr a week 4-930 mon-fri

I just checked in with an advisor and they said they do not know when the orientation will be available and that they are still working on correcting any errors with the certified profile. We may know more next week.

In regards to the shoes- you can wear any shoes you want to labs. I personally did not wear my clinical shoes to lab, especially after having my first MRSA and C. diff patients. Yuck! It's totally up to you what you want to wear to labs, as long as it is closed-toed.

You can wear whatever you want to lecture, although 2 days per week (at least that's how it was for us) you will have lab right after, so you usually wear khaki/polos on those days. I personally kept my jewelry minimal but I don't remember the official rules.

BTW- all of the immunization stuff is for the hospital purposes. The school just collects it to make sure you are covered.

They will tell you all of this, and lots more, at orientation. It will seem really overwhelming but they are there for you every step of the way. All of the professors are amazing and they work really hard to help you as much as they can.

Thanks bombaychaat. Its good to know all these stuff from someone from the inside.

Hey, I had a quick question, I want to get a stethoscope but in the handbook it said to wait for recommendations from instructors. What do they usually recommend? I am getting one as a gift for my upcoming birthday and I don't want anyone getting one I cant use. Thanks so much.

Does are cute.

Those are nice!

I'm returning my stethoscope (Littmann lightweight). It bothers me that the acoustic quality is a 6 (someone earlier pointed that out to me). I will splurge and get the Littmann Cardiology III. Need all the help I can get! :)
