FSW Fall 2016 Nursing Applicants

Published

Hello everyone,

I wanted to create a thread for those of us that are planning on applying to the nursing program for fall 2016. We can post about studying for the HESI/TEASE. FSW has changed from the HESI beginning Febuary 2016, so those of you that haven't already taken it you must take the HESI before Febuary 1st. If not you will need to plan on studying for the TEASE. Application deadline is May 15th. We can post about our points, most of you know what that consist of. Students are admitted off from a point system, the higher the points the better chance you have of being selected for the program. Our points is based off how many prerequisites we have taken upon application, our gpa for those prerequisites we have taken. And finally our HESI or TEASE score. For those of you that haven't taken the HESI or TEASE we can plan a study group either online or in person. I'm a in my final class required to apply (AP I), in another school. I will have 7 courses completed upon application so that gives me 29 points for that. I have not taken the HESI yet so I don't know my points for that yet. I haven't been able to figure out my final gpa yet because I'm in this last course. But I hope to get to know some of you and I hope one day we will even be in class together!

I did not take my prerequisites here, but I can tell you that Anatomy and Physiology can be tough and has a lab. If you're working full-time, I would do that one by itself...so that you get an A. Grades carry more weight than the TEAS score. Nutrition and Human Growth and Development are easier. You could probably take Microbiology with a less intense course. When I took them, I took them as night classes, because I had a 3 month old!!! Best of luck to you.

Did you do all the modules they say are required to be completed in the online orientation ? I don't know if I'm just not being able to access it or what cause mine says the course is not available yet?

I actually have not completed all the modules. Lazy days of summer. :/ I need to get moving.

Yeah I finally was able to access it and it's definitely enough to make you lazy lol btw did you get your Hep titer done or did you turn in a declination form?

I did the titer for Hep, as it was part of a package...and submitted the declination form. I am immune, have proof of it, but do not want to hunt down vaccination records.

Anyone get their uniforms yet from Hamiltons? BTW where is everyone getting shoes?

I got my uniforms, but I'm going back to get one more top and a lab coat. As for shoes, have no clue!

hey everyone congrats on getting in! I just graduated from the program so feel free to ask any questions! also I have several books and a lab coat id love to get rid of :)

Congrats on graduating:) how are the care plans, are they really stressful as people make them out to be?

Thank you! I thought the program overall was really good. It is a lot of work and takes a lot of dedication but its totally worth it. I took the nclex about 3 weeks after I graduated and got a job at a local hospital a month later!

Thanks, I appreciate the help. How did you find the microbiology class? I realize it has a lab component as well. How did it compare to A&P 1 with respect to difficulty and required study time?

I loved Microbiology. Anatomy is basically memorization and Physiology requires a thorough understanding of systems and chemical reactions. My teacher tested with essays, so I found that I had to study more to be adequately prepared. Micro does have a lab, but it's not as broad of a subject and is very interesting. But remember...I took my prereqs in Kentucky at UK. It may be different here in terms of emphasis and format. It definitely helps if you really like the subject you're learning.

That's awesome! How are you liking your new position so far? Do you feel you were well prepared to enter the field as a new RN?

The book package is $900 at the campus bookstore. Is anyone buying online or just going through them?
