FSU BSN 2015

U.S.A. Florida

Published

Hello all,

I haven't seen anyone start a thread at all for hopefuls for the BSN program at FSU to start fall 2015.

Anyone else out there apply?

Do you guys know anything about how the alternate/wait list works? I'm a little taken aback by this.

I'm not sure how to edit a post or I would combine all of this. I was told by FSU admissions today that no one who was an alternate was offered admissions last year. Bummer.

Sorry, I don't know anything about waitlists. :(

That's interesting that they've messaged you so early. Last year we didn't hear anything until late March!

Agree, @_zoubisoubisou_.

That's part of why I am so surprised and taken aback. They told me that they wouldn't even be reviewing applications until March 1st, but did the decisions early this year to give people time to do their major changes, etc.

So you are for sure on the wait list? That is better than being denied..

Are you an FSU student?

This is the email I got this morning:

February 24, 2015

Dear XXXXXX:

Thank you for your interest in Florida State University's College of Nursing. I regret to inform you that we are unable to offer you admission into our Traditional BSN program for Fall 2015. You were among many excellent applicants, and therefore have been placed on our Traditional BSN alternate list.

If you would like to be placed on our alternate list, please return the enclosed form by April 15, 2015. If we are unable to fill the number of allotted seats, you will be contacted by May 1st to see if you are still interested in enrolling into the nursing major at FSU. Your current alternate status does not guarantee admission into the Traditional BSN program for Fall 2015 or any future semesters.

I wish you well as you consider other nursing educational opportunities or other majors at Florida State University. Please do not hesitate to speak to an academic advisor in the Student Services Office in the College of Nursing to explore your other options. Our academic advisors can be reached at 850.644.3296 or [email protected].

Sincerely,

Carlos G. Urrutia

Director of Student Services

@ashtay06, I am definitely not an FSU student. I have my BA from UNF already and was applying as a second-degree seeking/transfer student.

Oh I see. Well you never know, a seat could open up and you could take their spot! Have you already been accepted to FSU? I applied as a transfer in October and still have not received a decision and all my documents are in.

And what was your GPA? if you don't mind me asking. Did you apply anywhere else?

I was told by Melinda Batton (an academic advisor at the College of Nursing at FSU) that not a single person last year was accepted off of the alternate list and to "prepare for that," but you are right --- it's better than an outright denial. From what I've read, it's pretty insanely competitive for people trying to get in as transfers.

To be honest, I have no idea what my GPA is according to FSU because I could never find out where to check how they evaluated me online. I can tell you it's been calculated around a 3.8 for most schools (3.68 at UWF, 3.78 for USF, and a 3.816 at FGCU). My prerequisite GPA is usually a 3.93 because of the B+ I got in Stats back in 2010 (I got A's in everything else). I also applied to FGCU and UWF and plan to apply to both the accelerated and traditional program at USF for fall 2015.

If FSU doesn't require any kind of deposit, I would still return the form to be placed on the alternate list. I would, however, also be applying to other schools though, which you probably have done. What are your top choices?

I remember how I felt last year, not caring where I went as long as I got in somewhere! I know it's tough, but try not to stress too bad! YOU WILL GET IN somewhere if you have the grades to do so. Just keep your options open. Ya know, I applied and interviewed at UNF for their accelerated and they waitlisted me (insert eye roll here). Few weeks later, I found out I got in to FSU and a few other schools. So, have faith!

I am a transfer student and I was accepted to the CON today. Just to let you know genonurse, I will most likely be giving up my spot if I am accepted into UCF or UNF.

And I still haven't heard back about my acceptance to FSU as a general transfer. I applied back in August.

@eptnurse,

What were you stats? Just wondering how high they had to be to get in as a transfer as I felt I was pretty competitive.

I applied back to FSU in September and had to call countless times to get my paperwork sorted out. I was told that you're not actually accepted until you're also accepted into the CON.

When do you hear back from UNF or UCF? Like I said, I was told that not a single person was moved off the alternate list last year. Kind of harsh news, but I appreciate the honesty (albeit hard to take lol). I am still waiting to hear back from someone about how many people are on the waiting list and how it even works.
