FSCJ Summer 2017 Hopefuls

Published

I wanted to create a new thread for Summer 2017 hopefuls (it seems far away, but it will be here before we know it).

I am very excited to start this journey, but I have to finish a few more prereqs. I am wanting to buy a HESI A2 study book, but I am not sure which one to go with. Does anyone have any suggestions? I saw on one thread where a lady swore by Elsevier, but I want to make sure that is a good one before I buy it. Thanks in advance.

Taking the test feb 8! Wish me luck !

Hey, I have a question about the HESI. You get your scores immediately right? I'm scheduled to take it the 15th, the day apps are due. I am worried because there are a million reasons not to wait until the last day but it's the ONLY day I can do it. If the scores print, I can walk them plus my application over to the correct office. Is it doable you think? I've decided to apply at such the last minute and this is my only obstacle. They already have my transcripts and all.

Yes you will get your score after the test. Make sure you have your BLS card and all the documents needed.

Hello everyone! Just applied for summer 2017 with 230 points. Fingers crossed!! Got an email saying final decisions should be made no later than march 8! Good luck everyone!!

Congrats on your points. Basically means you are in. How did the HESI go?

I retook it last month since I got a 76 the first time. This time I got an 82 with my lowest being a 56 in anatomy and my highest being a 96 in biology. I don't know what was going through my head during the anatomy section.

Anatomy is tough. I am taking the test next week and I am failing every practice test in biology I am starting to get nervous. Any advice or tips? Every study guide I see is different in difficulty.

I will be lucky to make an 80 on it giving me about 200 points to get in.

Honestly just don't overthink it! I had the 2017 Elsevier study guide and it did help with the basics but for me it wasn't ball basic on the test. For me, I thought I was well informed on anatomy so I skipped it while studying and that didn't help me lol so don't skip any of the subjects when you study!

Oh most definitely. So I know they make you take like 9 sections, but only look at 4 sections for the nursing program, but I am trying to figure out how do they calculate the points for the HESI? When you said you got an 82, is that the points you put on your rubric? Thanks.

I got an 84 on the HESI... this was a combined percentage of all sections taken.... they take your Anatomy, biology, math, and reading scores into account when giving out points. So really the overall percentage doesn't seem to matter when looking at the point system. Whatever percentage you got in those 4 categories you will take each one, divide it by 4 and then multiply by 1.2 .... then add them together and those are your points for the HESI.

Exactly what hlaskowsky said! Technically the 82 I got overall isn't the score I put on the HESI

Here's an example....

Anatomy Score 56% divide by 4 = 14 * 1.2 = 16

Biology Score 78% divde by 4 = 19.5 * 1.2 = 23.4

Reading Comp Score 94% divide by 4 = 23.5 times 1.2 = 28.2

Math Score 96% divide by 4 = 24 * 1.2 = 28.8

Add 28.8 + 28.2 + 23.4 + 16.8 = 97.2 point out of a total of 120 possible points for the HESI

Even though I did pretty badly on my anatomy... (should have take more time studying actual anatomy rather than physiology epsecially the heart and the ear!!!!) I made up for it with reading and math (hopefully)

:)
