Hello, everyone!

Since I have not seen one started on this site, I thought I would go ahead and get the ball rolling. This thread is for anyone hoping to get into FSCJ's Nursing Program for the term starting in the Summer of 2014.

No, they sure did not. They said Apr 4.

Wow...

Titers are the longest part..so as long as you can get that done ASAP you should be good. Congrats!

ALERT ALERT, I have created a facebook page for the group. Look up FSCJ Nursing Class of August 2015

Hey Manny,

I requested entrance for your facebook page. Joshua Frates is my name, nursing school is my game.

Hey Manny,

I accepted you. Welcome aboard!

Hey, I've gotten all my paperwork turned in. Now I'm working on the next hurdle, trying to square away all these things I need to buy. Where do I get the skills kit? Is it listed on Meridy's? Is the BP cuff on Meridy's adequate? Is the pocket protector one of the two on Meridy's? Finally do the hemostat and scissors come in the skill kit or do I need to buy them separately? Any help here would be greatly appreciated.

Also I completed my checklist/scavenger hunt yesterday. Subsequently I have a few tips to help you get it done quickly. Give yourself a few hours and wear comfy shoes. The lady from Students with Disabilities leaves at 2 every day. The councilors for the first line of the first section (I don't think rules permit me to list their names) take a while depending on who's there. I had to wait about 30 minutes just to talk to one. The cafeteria was closed when I went. I kept walking past it and went into the door for the culinary department on the left. The guy you need has an office in the first door on the right.

I don't think you have to worry about the skills kit just yet. I believe that will all be covered at the orientation.

Ok, thanks. I just created a facebook account and sent you a request from a suspicious-looking account with zero friends and a stethoscope for a portrait. I don't like FB and closed my personal account some time ago but I do appreciate the value of networking within the program.

Just accepted you :)

I'd love to hear your tips on the NAT! :)

I'd love to hear your tips on the NAT! :)

I will give a break down of my thoughts during the NAT.

Reading comprehension- I think that I only got through 2 different paragraphs with answers from those paragraphs, before I started to run out of time, and just "C"ed my way out. (hit the letter C for every problem). There were several questions for each paragraph. I ended up with 80th percentile. I think I should have read the paragraph and then answered the questions. Instead I read the answers and skimmed the paragraphs, which I think was detrimental.

Academic Aptitude: This section had to do with distinguishing the difference between meanings of words, math problems, and how shapes relate to each other. Meanings of words: Questions went something like: ugly, revolting, gross, beautiful. You have to guess the one that doesn't fit. Math: fractions/ add, subtract, mult,divide/ and word problems like if you make this amount per year, and taxes are taken out, how much did you make?Shapes: IfI is to i, than L is to l. Just make sure you pay attention to the shapes that are shown and even the dots or shading inside of the shapes. It is a very "Pay attention to detail", test.

Information in Natural Science: This section seemed to be about light Chem, cell biology, very little anatomy, energy, voltage, mitosis, proteins, DNA, Krebs Cycle, elements, protons, solutions, acids, bases, solvents, and that kind of thing. I watched like 1 hour of you tube videos before I went. My recommendation for quick learning is "Biology Lectures- By The New Boston. This kid knows what he is talking about, and tries to keep it interesting in a fashion that is quick and to the point. Also he draws what he is talking about for all those visual types. He has like 50 five minute lectures about biology and chemistry.

I earned a 101.76 out of 120 total. I am not that smart. I am 29, and have been in the military for the last 8 years. I just eliminated my answers, and if I was low on time, I just "C"ed my way out" meaning I clicked "C" for every answer I didn't have time to complete. Most science answers were like: What does a dog do: Scream, Squeal, Groan, Bark. Do what you know, but make sure you fill in every blank you can, since wrong answers do no hurt you.

Hi Retajet,

Youtube dosage calc for nurses & practice. PM me your email & ill send you the practice sheet we used and the values you have to memorize (L mL Kg Gm Mg Mcg,

1/2 oz = 1 Tablespoon = 3 teaspoons = 15 mL etc) and the med term list you have to know for med term/med abbreviations test within first few weeks.

Watch youtube videos for foley cath & central line dressing change, pay attention to them working in a sterile fields & not breaking them.

Review basic anatomy, bones & muscles. That will all help.
