FSCJ Fall 2014 hopefuls
Hello, bautmj. To be honest, I think you're well on your way to getting accepted next term. You have the grades, motivation, and experience to excel in the program. The only thing you need to work on is the NAT test. Do you get test anxiety? What score did you get on the NAT the first time? Preparing for NAT is tricky because there really isn't one way to study for it. What helped me was reading a lot, reviewing/practicing 8th grade math, Anatomy and Physiology, and a little bit of basic chemistry. Read over the concept sections in the A&P and chemistry textbooks; use context clues to identify unknown words; use critical thinking strategies; try to answer ALL the problems no matter what; learn to become a quick reader. I hope this helps! I wish you the best!

They don't care about which classes you didn't take

They only care if you have completed the prerequisites, test scores, and how many points you have. If you can somehow manage to get 185+ points without all the extra classes, then you should be good. I had a total of 229 points... but that's because I waited until I finished every single listed course.

If you happen to have more points than someone who already completed micro, then that's all that matters, regardless if you have taken sociology or not. Sociology can be taken while in nursing school. However, the more classes you have taken, the better.

You know, I was thinking the same thing. I think some employers may like to see that, but would still prefer someone who already has a BSN. So, I guess it will take significantly more effort to find a place that will hire someone under those circumstances.

I've never heard of phlebotomy certification as a requirement for PCT...

Ambz13, that is the most thoughtful and encouraging post that I have ever read on All Nurses. Thank you, and I wish us both success on our journey to become great nurses!!!!

I don't think you have to worry about the skills kit just yet. I believe that will all be covered at the orientation.

Am I unemployable as a nurse if....
Wrench Party, thank you for your help! I will definitely try and do that on my resumé. I feel like sometimes people have more experience and qualifications than they think, but have difficulty communicating them via resumé, cover letter, interview, etc. So, I will definitely do what you have said. Again, thank you. :)

Based on the other responses, I don't think you wasted your time. Maybe you have to come up with a creative way to present your skills and experiences so that employers see what you're capable of. Maybe you're looking in the wrong places. Do you have your BSN or ADN?
