FSCJ Spring 2014 hopeful

Published

I haven't found anything for spring 2014 hopefuls so I wanted to put it out there and meet any other applicants. I am currently taking chem over the summer & I am enrolled in micro for fall. I took my NAT yesterday. I will be applying in Aug for a spring start with 204.32 points. I am hoping to make it in spring rather than having to finish micro and need those points, pushing me back to summer start. Almost 2 years of pre-reqs and sweating it out, it's almost our turn to apply  I am stoked!!!

Specializes in Critical Care, Transplant..

I may apply for FSCJ Spring or Summer I don't know the process at all. I have not really looked into it because I just recently planned to go to nursing school (was planning PA school before) so luckily I have pretty much all the pre-reqs done just missing Nutrition which I will be taking at UNF this fall. As long as I get an A in that I will have a 4.0 Pre-Req which was my goal. If I don't apply to FSCJ I intend to go to JU or UNF's summer term.

On a side note to those that need to take Micro still, I would recommend Dr. Bloodworth at FSCJ Deerwood/South. She is not easy(the subject is not easy anyway) but she really cares and gives you all you need to earn the grade. Plus I feel she is a good weeder/prep for what nursing school will be like.

Cheers.

Hello everyone. I need to know if I need to have completed micro by the start date. I see where it says a minimum of 11 credits from math and 2 science are to be completed. If it has to be done by the start of the program I will just wait until summer.

Hi JoiMari,

You only have to be enrolled in micro, not completed. You just do not get to count that class towards your points if not completed.

Good luck!!! :)

Hey everyone!

I'm a spring 2014 hopeful, trying to apply EVERYWHERE in Florida. I did apply at FSCJ for fall semester, knowing I wouldn't make it in but wanted to see where I stand. I think I'll need about 25 more points to be "secured" into spring's program. Of course, with all the stress of trying to balance work, school, and a social life, I feel like I've gone a little mad lol. Especially trying to study for the NAT exam. I'll be retaking it the second week of September at Deerwood. I made the 99th percentile in reading comprehension (but it looks like a low raw score to me?), 90th in academic aptitude, and I won't even mention how I did in the science section :'( lol. For anybody who did really well on the NAT exam, can you refresh my memory and tell me what I should study for the AA and NS section? I have the study guide book, but it's so overwhelming. I don't even remember what questions they asked for the AA section, it's like my mind is completely cleared! I'm also all ears for any study tips. I'm trying to refresh all basic science by googling bits of chemistry, biology, A&P, and microbiology.

Thanks!

I submitted my application this afternoon. I'm SUPER nervous. Good luck everybody. I look forward to possibly meeting some of you =)

Very exciting

Hi Kjkkm,

Can you tell more about the NAT and what to expect, like math & science.

Thank you!

Hi happycat

The math was basic 8th grade math.

Ex- Joe makes $7 an hour, Bill makes $6 an hour & Steve makes $8. Bob makes $2 more an hour than the average of the first three, what is Bob's hourly rate.

It's easy math (i loathe math & found it easy, no algebra) just short on time.

The science section was random. I had a lot of questions about amperes & volts. I guessed a lot. i took my test before taking Chem & AP 2 over the summer. I'm taking micro this fall.

Science also had anatomy questions like these

Which bone is located in the arm

Tibia

Fibula

Radius

Patella

The phalanges are located in the

Arm

Hand

Neck

Head

My biggest tip is if you find you are running out of time start guessing just to finish the section. Wrong answers are not counted against you so it's better to guess than leave blanks. Also, if one question was taking too long I would guess and move on. Time is the biggest factor but it can be completed :)

Good luck! When are you taking the test?

Hi kjkkm,

Thanx for the reply and the info. I would like to take the test soon. I like your strategy of taking it the first time to see how I do knowing I can take it a second time in another 90 days. I plan on applying for the summer 2014 program. I still have three classes to take, A&P2, humanities this fall and Micro in the spring.

Good luck to you all! I applied for spring with 187.94 points. I am hoping the third time is a charm, I applied for summer and this fall but was not accepted. Those of you that need Micro take it with Dianne Fair at south campus she is great! Since I didn't get into the fall program I am taking Dr. Fair's medical terminology course.

Prof. Fair is an amazing teacher! I took her micro class also. =)
