FSCJ Nursing-Summer 2015

U.S.A. Florida

Published

I haven't seen any thread for Summer 2015 Nursing Program for FSCJ, so I decided to create this one. There has been slight changes made to the program and to the prerequisite requirements.

Is anyone else planning to apply for the program? Any tips?

Words of encouragement?

Have you taken the HESI?

Is this your first time shooting to the program?

Be Positive Future Nurses!!

I applied to the generic and the bridge program with like 183 points I believe and I got accepted into the bridge. Just an FYI for those asking about points.

The cutoff score was 183.9

Congratulations to all of you who have received your packets! This is an exciting time for you guys and an overwhelming one as well. You have a lot to do and a short amount of time in which to do it, so just remember to take it one day and one check mark at a time.

Please get your titers as soon as possible because if anything will hold you up, that will. You must have actual lab values, not just confirmation that you had a Hep B five years ago. They need a numeric value of what is in ya blood. ;-) Even if your doctor's office tells you you don't need it (because some don't want to be bothered), ignore them and get it anyway.

I am usually on here once or twice a week, so if you have any questions, let me know.

Congrats again!!

Hello All! In case we have some lurkers who have been accepted and didn't see this earlier, we have a Facebook page for our cohort. Join us over there - it's already been a very helpful resource, as we're sharing information to make things a little easier. We even have a couple people who have been through or are currently in the program who have given some awesome tips and advice.

Hello, can you tell me where you went to get all of your titers/physical/shots done?

Hi Everyone, I am still working on my prerequisites and I need some advice.

When I first decided to pursue nursing, my advisor printed out my degree audit and she added CHM1032C-Principles of General Chemistry. This was last summer and I know that a couple of the prereques have changed and looking at the 2014-2015 Catalog for the nursing program it is requiring CHM 1020 - Chemistry for Liberal Arts or any college level CHM prefix course.

I have two questions. First, I am assuming that CHM 1020 - Chemistry for Liberal Arts is more of an introductory class with it being only 3 credit hours vs the CHM1032C class and it cost less. I am paying for all of my schooling on my own which is tough so I need to know if the 1032c class is really needed and worth taking. Will it help me more in the long run with the other classes or is the 1020 class really all that I need?

Second, I just completed elementary algebra and am scheduled for intermediate algebra (MAT1033) for this summer term. Math is my weak spot and after the summer class I will still have college algebra to go!!! ugh...

My advisor said for me to take MAT1033 along with CHM1032C. Being that the summer classes are faster paced, and math is my weak spot to begin with, is taking both simultaneously reasonable? I'm not a spring chicken and stress, stress, stress out!!!

Any input is greatly appreciated. :)

Oh, and now I just found out that the Sociology class that I am right now, in the middle of, is NO longer required... Jeesh... these classes are expensive! They need to make up their minds what they want you to take... So I really don't want to spend more on the chem class if I don't need it. I mean if it is going to help me with later classes then fine, but if not, I don't want to pay extra for no reason... Thanks again for reading and for any input.

CHEM1020 is required for the RN program and CHEM1032 is accepted as well though only 3 of the credits will count towards your points. CHEM1032 is required further along if you are going on to get your BSN, so pretty much it's either now or later. Personally I chose CHEM1020 with the hope that I would have a better chance at scoring a higher grade.

MAT1033 has a lot of the same info from MAT1028 with some adding onto the equations and taking them a bit further. Not much more difficult.

Hello, can you tell me where you went to get all of your titers/physical/shots done?

When you set up your Drug Screen online, it will give you the option to have your titers done there, too. From what we have seen, that is the cheapest way to get it done if you do not have insurance.

If you can, take the higher CHM class so you wont have to retake another chem class down the road if you want your BSN or transfer to another school.

They did just change the sociology requirement and that stinks, but look at it this way. You will probably need that credit down the road for BSN too if you transfer to another school. So it feels like you've wasted your time, but it will come in good use! Keep positive and good luck!

Also, i have 2 HESI study books that i used to practice for the entrance exam for sale ($30). I did not write in either book, i ran off copies to use while i practiced. Each book has 3 full practice tests and the answer key at the back to check your progress. If you know anyone who is interested, please message me at [email protected] - for the subject area please list HESI FSCJ or something similar, so i know it's not spam!

What's your email? I'll send u the new nursing program packet...it shows how to calculate your score with grades and HESI...

I unfortunately an not applying till Fall 2015. I'll be in MICRO starting this Fall semester 2014, at south campus. I'm going to apply in February. Planning to take HESI in December/January....I'm anxious, but feel that it's time for my hard work to pay off and start a career I'll love!!

Hi, I know I'm replying to an old post but I can't get in touch with anyone at the nursing department at FSCJ. I was wonder if you still have the packet and wouldn't mind sending it to me ([email protected]). I want to calculate my points. t

Thanks in advance

Maybe you can help me out... I wanted to apply for the Spring 2016 Nursing Program but, the deadline is August 1st and I will not be finished with my class until July 26th(?). Do you know how long it takes for the application to process? I would have a 4-5 day window before the deadline.
