FSCJ Fall 2014 hopefuls

Published

Hello everyone, I did not see a post for the fall 2014 semester, so I wanted to get it started. I applied to the 2014 summer semester and now I am waiting on my acceptance or denial letter. I am starting this forum just in case i do not get in for the summer. My total score right now is 169.96. I have 97 points for my classes and 72.96 points from the NAT. I am currently taking statistics and humanities, in hope of getting an A in both of them to boost my score up to 178.96. I made a C in A&P 1, my first humanities class and PSY1012. I also made a B in college algebra and that is what got my score down so low. I hope that the low cut off score trend continues to give me a good chance of getting in. The last 3 semesters were 175.96, 187 and 187. I am preparing to retake the NAT in late May to be in time for the June 1st deadline with plenty of time to study for the NAT. I look forward to meeting you all, and hear how things are going for you, so we can encourage and support one another.

Everyone, a Facebook group has been created called "FSCJ Nursing c/o December 2015". Any volunteers to become an additional Administrator of the group page?

will you please add me to the group Katrina jones-Grosswiler, thank you

Does anyone know about the skills kit, where do we get that an the pocket protector?

Does anyone know about the skills kit, where do we get that an the pocket protector?

The skills kit was ordered online. The info was in our packet. It may have been Meridy's also but I can't say for sure. I just know I ordered it from one of the papers they sent, and it is sent straight to the school, and we did not get ours until the 3rd or 4th week of class. The stethoscope and BP cuff do not come in the skills kit. A pocket protector you can get at Meridy's. The lab coat I do have but have not worn. You can wear it in the hospital if you're cold but never when attending to patient's. I believe the reason you cannot has to do with sanitation. I've never worn it over my blue polo and khakis so I don't know what that's about.

Where is the cheapest place to get a uniform

You have to get your tops through Meridy's. The pants I have no idea. Any uniform store I'd imagine. I don't know the pricing difference, but I know some people have bought them else where because they liked the fit better. I bought the ones from Meridy's. They are not great but they are not terrible. I'll probably buy different ones eventually.

Does anyone know where to get a decent plus size pair of khaki's I called torrid and lane Bryant with no luck....

The material you have in the packet is all you will need for the orientation test. It's really, really easy.

I had two questions about the dosage calc. packet:

1. I am using a basic calculator which it says we can use to compute but I also wondered if we will be able to use this calculator throughout the whole dosage calc. course. I don't want to rely on something that will only hurt my chances of learning. I am normally really good at math but ratios, percents, fractions and decimals honestly make me hate math.

2. I purchased the coordinating text so I could get as much practice and reading done as possible before orientation so I could get a better understanding, but are the on campus practice tests worth taking? Has anyone taken them before? I live so far from North Campus so that was my other reason for buying the book so I could have it for references in arms length at home. I will be memorizing any and all conversions in the book just so I can feel more comfortable.

The medical terms come easy for me since I am already in health care, I am just mainly concerned about my dosage calcs.

Calculator -- Yes, you will be able to use it throughout for the remaining DC tests. Also, every Pharm exam will have a little bit of DC on it.

Plus-size khakis -- I don't know what you're looking for but the Uniform Store in River City Marketplace carries Dickies if you like that brand.

Can we use those TI-80 graphing calculators or does it have to be a basic one
