Hello everyone, I did not see a post for the fall 2014 semester, so I wanted to get it started. I applied to the 2014 summer semester and now I am waiting on my acceptance or denial letter. I am starting this forum just in case i do not get in for the summer. My total score right now is 169.96. I have 97 points for my classes and 72.96 points from the NAT. I am currently taking statistics and humanities, in hope of getting an A in both of them to boost my score up to 178.96. I made a C in A&P 1, my first humanities class and PSY1012. I also made a B in college algebra and that is what got my score down so low. I hope that the low cut off score trend continues to give me a good chance of getting in. The last 3 semesters were 175.96, 187 and 187. I am preparing to retake the NAT in late May to be in time for the June 1st deadline with plenty of time to study for the NAT. I look forward to meeting you all, and hear how things are going for you, so we can encourage and support one another.
In response to what vaccines, they will send you a list of what you need. Please note that even if you have a medical form stating that you have received your TB series (as an example), you STILL need to have the titers done. They need a physical form with positive titers results. Learn from what some in our group did wrong. And I would list them all for you, but it won't do any good because all your titers and paperwork are required to be drawn and completed after you receive your letters. They are picky in case you haven't figured that out yet. ;-)
No, it's good you said it too! I feel like the Debbie Downer on here, but I just know what a lot of us experienced and it is better to be prepared than naive to how things really are by hoping they believe in things like "fair" and "flexible." They are not here to make our lives easy...at all. lol
No. That's what whyistherumgone and I were saying. All titers and paperwork has to be after the acceptance letter date, even if it precedes it by a single day. Get titers drawn on everything they list EVEN if you have records saying you've already received immunizations. You have to have positive titers dated after your acceptance letter.
ETA: Hah. I just saw that you read further back. Ne'ermind!

Can you go to your regular doctor for this..how long does it take for the labs. My regular doctor doctor doesn't have a lab in the office so I guess make an appt with the doctor then to the lab...what if the doctor office is booked I wonder if you could g ro a solantic type place. Since we have to get the titers done do we stiil need copies of our shot records

I hate to always come in with what seems like negative posts, but I only wish to give you the reality of how it is in this program.
I have no answers as to what is going in that admin office, nor do I know anything about the new application dates/changes. I don't know why the Spring 2015 applicants/packets are holding them up for the Fall 2014. In truth, it may have nothing to do with it and they are merely saying that.
It is true that WE as students have to be flexible. And yes, this summer term started a week earlier and is ending a week late. This only effected OUR plans and OUR deadlines. All blood work, labs, and payments had to be made by the 12th instead of the 19th. It messed a lot of people up!!! I say again, they do not care and they will give your seat to the next eager person who didn't get in if you decide you can't or won't get it done.
That being said...Do not ever count on them starting later than usual based on when your letters came out. Won't happen. One guy in our class didn't receive his packet at all and based on the cut off scores, we knew he had to be in, so he finally went to the school and picked up his packet. He had one week to get his stuff done and he asked for an extension and they told him in no uncertain terms, "Absolutely not!" and yes, this was THEIR fault. Another friend in my class, the lab lost her results and four days before the deadline her labs were not back. The doctor even offered to advocate for her to the nursing department that it was not her mistake. She was told, "Better hope they come in!" Thankfully, one day before the deadline, her results came in, but she had already gone and had another set done for extra money to rush it.
Get it through your heads--everything is on their time...everything.
Also, just an FYI about blood work and titers. Don't run out and try to get a jump on things before you get those titers. Some of these have a window of when you can get those titers run.
As far as immunization records go, it is good to have them, but you still have to run the titers!!! They want to see the lab levels of each antibody in your system. If the level is too low, you will need a booster, even if you have had them before.
They do not play with this! As soon as you get your packets, go get your titers and once those results come back, you get the immunizations based on what is required by the school and what your lab results say. Make sure to tell your doctor you need a report that shows the lab levels of EACH titer!
I know this all seems very negative. It's not. It's just cold, hard truth. When you get your packets, you will notice it says, "You are conditionally accepted into the nursing program." You have to meet the conditions they require or you're out. It's as simple as that.
Best of luck!!! I know the waiting is hell!!!
