I am so frustrated with not being able to find a RN position. I live in the philly area... I have applied to every hospital I can think of... I decided to make some calls to follow up on my application status and i get the ususal Nurse Recruiter answer machine stating" Please leave a detail message; your call is important to me and I will return your call asap". also I call HR and they bascially say to wait for someone to contact you." I guess i am just venting... I know that I am not the only RN grad looking and waiting to jumpstart my career. BUT Boy it's frustrating as well.... Any advice?
Where I work they are in desperate need in our unit for 6 experienced cardiac nurses. These positions have not been filled in months and our unit is now temporarily using contract nurses for now.
I started out there 6 months ago as a new grad (I moved from IA to NC to get it) and they're about to start with 8 more new grads this summer but this unit needs experienced nurses right now because it is a very high paced, critical floor. In fact, I'm moving on to a med/surg job in a few weeks because cardiac was way too much for me.
I hope you find something soon.
Hey, my names katherine and ive just graduated too. Im from Northern Irealn and the job opportunities are terrible here too. I have been searching for a job for ages and no luck. We were told that there were loads of jobs in usa/canada but we wud have to sit an exam to practice there. Its just so frustrating when you have studies and worked very hard for a number of years to not have a job at the end of it.. it makes it seem very pointless.
guys, while waiting for a position post nclex, work on your certifications, some can even be done from home like hiv nursing, public health nursing, others like tncc, and critical care nursing require short inservices. if all you aspire to is med surg bedside nursing then you are shutting the door to the many subspecialities nursing has to offer. acls and bls are nothing on your resume, er techs get bls, phlebotomy and ekg training which on paper is more diverse than a student nurse. you have to work to stand out above your peers. good luck and keep on trying everyone is struggling right now unless your independently wealthy.

If you're right that all those places are hiring new grads then there is soon to be a mass influx into New York.
If jobs are scarce in your area you need to be open to moving. I got a nursing job eventually 1200 miles away.
Exactly! Nurses are supposed to be flexable but it sucks for all the people out there who can't move due to their families and such. I live in the Detroit area and nursing jobs are hard to come by hear yet everyone insists their is a shortage. I plan on moving when I finish school and going where ever the jobs are.

Your classmates should not count on "guaranteed employment" The only way they have guaranteed employment is if they had a scholarship from the hospital the requires a work commitment and the hospital would want to recoup their money. I worked for two years as a CNA and the hospital I worked at couldn't hire me. Another classmate had worked there for six years and didn't get hired!!!
