Frustrated- What Are My Options!?!?!?

Published

Well, I did not get accepted into Stratham. This is my second time applying. I have pretty good NLN scores, an incredible reference from Boston Childrens and I am in A&P II now. I am also an LNA in maternity.

I do not now what to do next. I only have 2 pre-reqs left and then a entire year of waiting to apply again. I only applied to 1 school because I have a son with major medical issues and do not want to be too far in case of emergency. I am unsure of what my options are at this point.

The BSN program at UNH seems as if it would not take many of my NHCTC credits and I would be starting over. I should have applied to manch. and concord. What other options are there? Are there any other Jan start programs? I am just unsure what to do in the meantime and how many times do I apply? I may be a glutton for punishment! I just do not want to spend the next year waiting to reapply if I may not even get in! I thought about taking a phlebotomy class. My husband says I should finish the liberal arts- but that is still may credits away.I just hate to get out of the school mode. Any suggestions? Are there any other options at this point?

Where are you located?

There's a Jan program at Lawrence Memorial/Regis College but that's in Medford, MA. If you're in Southern NH, it might be worth just applying to. They don't need NLN or TEAS scores. They go by GPA, references and essay.

I really thought that NHCTC had an articulation agreement with UNH and also w/ Rivier. You might want to meet w/ someone in admissions at UNH. They really should be accepting your credits from NHCTC-I would think, anyway?

There's St. Joseph's School of Nursing in Nashua. They're pretty expensive but it seems like a nice school. They don't have a Jan start date though.

If I were in your shoes, I'd probably scout around and find out where I'd want to take my BSN. If it were UNH, then I'd take as many Gen Eds as I could that will apply to your BSN. Reapply to all of the NHCTC for Fall, 2008 and by the time you are done with everything, you should be that much closer to your BSN.

It's crazy how these schools are able to turn down such good students. There really should be more schools around here to accomodate all of the prospective nursing students!

Don't forget to go onto the NH Board of Nursing website. They have a list of all the nursing schools in NH. I'm not sure of the actual URL, but if you google NH Board of Nursing, the link will come up for you.

I'm sorry you did not get in this year. It must be so disappointing. :( Don't let it discourage you. Keep on going. Worst case senario is that you'll be one year behind. You WILL be an RN. Just keep on working at it!

Middlesex community college in Lowell, MA has a january start program, other than that there is not much you can do except learn and apply to multiple programs next time.

I would check with UNH... I'm in the direct-entry grad program and they had no problem with us taking our pre-reqs at the Tech (I took four of mine there). I am not sure whether you need to be accepted to the nursing program to take Introduction to Nursing in the fall... and if so whether you can still apply for the program. But I would definitely check with them to see what your options may be there.

I'm sorry to hear that you didn't get the acceptance letter. If you do end up having to wait a year you could start taking courses that will work towards the BS... I know Stratham, Manchester, NHTI all have articulation agreements with UNH, so you could start knocking some of that stuff out of the way now. Good luck.

Have you spoken to Rivier? they have a realy flexible enrollment..i have pretty much taken one or two classes at a time; am finally graduating next month!:monkeydance: they are pretty generous with financial aid since they are a little more costly than some of the other choices. good luck!!

I'm sorry you didn't get in too :( I agree with the above posters though, the NH community colleges have an articulation agreement with UNH so I would talk to UNH directly. I know that you can go on and get your BSN after you get your RN from the community colleges so I wouldn't think you would have a problem tranferring credits. Do you want to eventually get your BSN? If you do then I would start taking classes and knock some of those out once you finish up your other coreqs/prereqs for the ADN program. Definitely apply to as many programs as possible. Good luck!

Ryansmum-Sorry to hear you, too, did not get in. I am in your A&P II class so we can talk tonight. Don't give up-take the NLNs again (I know you said your score would expire this year) and you will get those needed 20 points for next year. Stay focused on what you want. In the meantime, it cannot hurt to check into UNH. I know you have a family so the Stratham courses fit well. I'll see you tonight.
