I feel so stupid, I can only average 55% on any practic exam I do. I know everyone says don't go by this for the NCLEX but I am getting scared to death. All the books I have says you need at least 77-80%. I second guess myself, i don't know how to stop! I'm losing all my conficence... there it goes right out the window.

Hang in there Lisa! I was in the mid-50's for a while and finally creeped up through the 60's and just got a 72 on the last big 100 question test I took! If you're referring to the Priority and Delegation book, that book is impossible in my opinion! There's lots of SATA's and prioritize the most minute steps in order it's not possible to get all of those right! Same thing with my Davis CD. If I take a 100 question practice exam, I typically get 20-30 SATA's, PROBABLY way more than what we'd get on the real NCLEX (I HOPE!).
I had to reschedule for this week. I'm a wreck since I spent last week vacationing and hardly studying. My latest method is doing 25 practice exam questions and jotting down 'random notes' about the various subject areas. Kind of like the 'random fact throwing thread.' Too much material to try to cram in at this point!
Hopefully we can both get done and put this stupid test behind us!

You have been through this before. You know you need to adequately prepare and be emotionally ready to test. Gather your wits about you and study effectively. Didn't you just accept a job offer? Don't shoot your new job in the foot!

Lisa,
Did you ever pin down why exactly you didn't pass the first time? Perhaps there is something there that will explain why you can't get past 55%... Don't be in a hurry and skip this most important step... you don't want to do this again. Have you taken a prep class, or studied the strategies (not just the content)? Before I took Kaplan, I had a hard time answering the questions because I just do not think like the PearsonVue people do. It wasn't that I didn't know the content, I did. It was more like sometimes, "which would most concern you about..." meant to look for the most critical outcome, sometimes it would mean to look for the expected outcome, and sometimes it would mean to look for the one that should never be the outcome. I still think this is stupid, and not at all the way to test our beginning competency, but I did pass, and this stupidness (yes, I've decided that's a word) is behind me now.
Try to nail this down now, before you are stuck with even more time to try to figure it out. Good luck!
caliotter, Yeah I did accept a job offer and it's what I really want to do. I'm so nervous... the what if! I'm just sooo scared!
Erin, I got 54 total SATA on my NCLEX on my first attempt. In the first 75 questions I had 32. I took the whole 260 questions! boy was I exhausted!!
Yeah it was on the LaCharity book with low percentages. But even on Exam Cram I was in 60-75% range.
Momma, I know that I was weak in OB and Pysch. So I have been reading content review and practicing more questions. I just feel Pysch can be opionated, so I have always struggled with it.
I need to find a good strategies book. Thanks all!

My friend that got all 265 and passed said the SATA's on the NCLEX were easier than the Priority/Delegation book. She felt they were more straight forward. I know on my Davis CD it has questions where you 'put things in order' and it's so frustrating! The smallest and most minute details are asked and many are things that would occur concurrently. i.e. 'calling for help and sending a nurse aide for a crash cart' But nope, #1 would be calling for help (that was obvious for me) and you wouldn't have a crash cart brought to you until step #4 or #5!
I'm also tired of thinking ABC's, because that doesn't always work for me either! So, I'm finding lots of conflicts with the so-called strategies.
These practice tests are so discouraging! I am freaking out about content. I still don't feel like I have a good handle on as much as I should. I need to get my labs and ABG's memorized!
I'm going to keep going until the end! Not happy about having to work 9 hours tomorrow!
