  1. HELLO EVERYONE, I AM IN DESPERATE NEED OF SOME ADVICE FROM OTHER NURSING STUDENTS. I FEEL LIKE PULLING OUT MY HAIR:banghead: I JUST STARTED AN LPN PROGRAM IN MAY, AND WHILE I KNEW THAT IT WOULD BE DEMANDING, I DID NOT THINK THAT I WOULD GET TO THE POINT WHERE I AM STARTING TO SECOND GUESS MY DECISION. ITS REALLY, REALLY STRESSFUL. FIVE CLASSES AND TESTS EVERY OTHER DAY. HOW IN THE WORLD DO THEY EXPECT YOU TO STUDY. I'VE ALREADY COME TO GRIPS OF NOT HAVING MUCH OF A LIFE OUTSIDE SCHOOL, BUT I'M STARTING TO BELIEVE THAT I SHOULD HAVE GONE TO A FOUR UNIVERSITY INSTEAD OF AN ELEVEN MONTH PROGRAM:sniff:, MAYBE THEN I COULD PACE MYSELF WITH MY CLASSES. ANYONE ELSE FEEL LIKE ME. THANKS FOR READIN' NYK.

you are right about school taking over your life..but there is light at the end of the tunnel...

good luck

by the way, it is preferred that you not post in all caps, thank you

Hang in there. We all been there and done that. I'm going to move this post to the student forum where you're going to get more hits by the students themselves who are going through it.

yes you should have went to a university. bsn > lpn. besides, we all know lpns will not be around too much longer unless you're in a ltcf or something like that. its not too late to look into your bachelor's degree

Part of the problem may be test anxiety. The other thing is looking at this as "school". It is job training with a focus to get you successfully past the licensing exam. The school has a very serious objective to train you to be a safe practitioner--that is a lawful duty that they have to the citizens of the state. You need to take that very seriously as 11 months of intense on-the-job training. After that 11 months you can do what you want with your life. Some LPN programs have expanded to 18 months or longer to take some of this time pressure off the students. It's unfortunate that you didn't research this better before getting into a program like this.

Hey....I feel your pain. I've been where you have been. Questioning "Is this for me?" I have 5 more weeks to go and I'll finish my LPN. It wasn't easy, but I'm glad that I stuck it out and didn't quit. It is SO incredibly time consuming, but you'll get into a grove that works for you. Hang in there!!

Every single semester I feel the same way! You are not alone. I've been hearing since 1990 they were phasing out LPN's. Well, the local hospital is using them (and its a brand spankin' new one), so don't worry too much. Maybe it depends which state you live in that LPN's will be on the endangered list.

On the stress end, NS is stressful. Try to keep your eyes on the prize (graduation, don't even think of the NCLEX yet!). I'm going into 4th semester in August and I'm so burnt out but can honestly admit that I 2nd guess myself each and every semester (and most of the way through them). Maybe it will help knowing you're not alone. I'm at a tech college that combines the LPN/RN program. You can step out after half of the program and sit for the PN Exam. I chose to go on because I was afraid if I left, I wouldn't go back. I could not believe how much more difficult 3rd semester was. I just keep my eyes on the prize and have faith that I'm not alone. You can do this.
