From somewhere in the middle of Illinois...
Hubs got a bee in his bonnet to make a quick trip to Indiana so I took Friday off and we left late yesterday afternoon.
dianah, passwords are such a struggle. I know people who even pay for a password management service.
Joe, I'm always a bit disappointed to miss a counseling session but how sad for the counselor to lose her dog.
And blame dianah for the new soundtrack in my head:
"Our state fair is the best state fair. Don't miss it; don't even be late!"
"It's dollars to donuts that our state fair is the best state fair in our state!"
Morning. It's overcast and windy, and it smells smoky. No plans for today. I need to gather some more stuff to donate somewhere. I have accumulated a lot of books, but probably nothing Stars would be interested in. I was going to attend a Zoom meeting last night for gardening, but it wouldn't load, and it reminded me of how much I dislike those things. I went to get a follow up CT yesterday, and showed up 2 hours early, but they got me in anyway. I had a CT last year that showed "nodules, recommend follow-up in one year". They're still there, no change, so no more imaging needed. The imaging place has a patient portal where you can see your own images, which is fun. I always liked looking at X-rays at work. A catalog from the local community college came for non-credit classes, and I may look into 1 or 2.
Im supposed to attend my class reunion tomorrow, but I may not go. The talk usually turns to who died, and I find that depressing. I don't have much in common with the people who usually show.
We have one tomato plant that got to 6 feet, the rest are 3-4 feet tall. dh puts a sturdy wooden stake in the ground when planting, and ties them up as they grow, and trims the excess stems. Our pepper plants are only 2 feet tall. I am going to pick some and make stuffed peppers, I think.
The Siesta Twins are leaned back in their recliners and snoring. How lovely.
Looking at hubby's bloated belly, I wonder if it is just overweight or does it signal something else, like a liver problem. But, he isn't yellow anywhere, so I dunno. It worries me, as he looks about ten-to-twelve months preggers.
My gosh, the Braves are playing out in San Francisco tonight and the game doesn't start until 10:15 PM ! Don't guess I'll be staying up to watch it!
We had one heck of a thunderstorm last night, and it was overhead for close to an hour. LOUD thunder and brilliant lightning flashes, and LOTS of rain! Nannie 'had to' go to bed because she feels safer there. Now, although it was predicted we'd have no rain for the next five days, we're supposed to get another storm tonight. The weatherman said that today's heat was going to be 'brutal' at 95, with humidity like 70% and a 'feels like' temp of 104. I haven't gone out, and probably won't until later when I check the mailbox and bring in the trash-barrel. No, I take that back, I have to go put out some deer-corn for the two does and 2 youngsters that come by for an early meal.
Hope everyone is doing okay ~
I was a free charge at work and was having a good day. Until it wasn't. Weird thing we had a homeless patient that had $30,000 cash that she got from a law suit settlement but didn't have a bank account. It's in our safe now. She wanted to AMA right after a chest tube insertion and the doc that put it took it out at the bedside. She needs a thoracotomy schedule Monday and I told her what the pulmonologist told her "you might die". She wound up staying. In the middle of this a patient in another room feel.
Then sadly, I get home and the dog I'm dog sitting for has died. It was a hard phone call to make. I don't know what happened but she was elderly and skin and bones. My brother in law was very decent about and felt bad it happened on my time but said it could have happened any day. She was skinny and frail but no signs of any impending death.
I'll take her to her vet in Tampa to be cremated and put in an engraved box for him.
So sorry to read about your loss, Tweety. Even though she wasn't "yours," I know you were attached to her. Condolences to your brother-in-law and family/loved ones.
What a day at work, too! Shaking my head.
I trimmed the front bushes, swept the sidewalk, and got two loads of laundry going (one is the linens from the RV). It's still hot here, "but it's a dry heat!"
Have a good evening!
I'm sorry, Tweety. That's rough. I was feeling all good for you when I read that you were able to be free charge at work. But then.
It is warm here but humid. I'm reminded about Indiana summers. Though often it would start cooling off in August. It's hard to believe it's late August already.
I guess Hubs thought he could get away with not telling his daughter we were coming to Indiana. He didn't want to add on a 2 hour drive each way to visit her. But then he was oh so smart and posted on facebook about being here. So I've invited her to drive down to Kokomo and sent cash for gas. Trying to be the peacekeeper as always. Hubs is focused on visiting his friends. The bluegrass band he used to play with played this evening at his hometown's 175th anniversary celebration.
Oh Tweety, that is very sad about the dog passing away. That is very kind of you to deal with her remains.
Dianah, do you think you can help Stars with responding to a private message? Or can you message me her address? I would like to send her some books.
We visited Indianapolis once around Labor Day, because that's where our eldest was living. It was between 90-100 degrees and nearly 100% humidity. It was unpleasant, to say the least.
Joe, I hope you had fun at the Art Institute. Is that the one in Chicago? I loved my visit there and could have stayed another day. I think the Rembrandt was my favorite. And the huge Rodin sculpture in the foyer.

Dianah it always seems to be a pain when a passwords need to be reset
Stars glad the Robaxin helped. That seems like poor planning on his part
Work was pretty good yesterday, a fairly quiet day, a good day to end the week. The counselor had to cancel as her dog had died, so I used my lunch hour to run an errand before the heat of the afternoon. Stayed in and exercised, as it was about 101 by early evening.
Still trying to get next year's reunion sorted out, we might go a week earlier than planned, to try and accommodate everyone's schedules
Tried absinthe last night, I really like the flavor, although it didn't turn me into an artist or a novelist or cause me to want to move to Montmarte or the left bank of the Seine ?
Have today off, will go out bird watching early, then will drive into the city to the Art Institute, which I haven't been to in years
Will a much cooler day too, in the lower 80s
