Good morning!
Joe, hope you have a good day today.
I'm glad Waffles has a doggie door and I don't have to continually take her out. Although sometimes she gets in a mood and uses pads or the floor outside the door. LOL
I was hoping to mow the grass but it rained and it's a pain to mow when wet. At least it's not so hot. Maybe later. I'll run to the store first. Might try a new tofu recipe.
Hope you guys have a good day.
My gosh, what an evening I had! We had a huge CRACKING sound happen that sounded like a lightning strike really close by. I went to peer out the back door over in the direction of the sound, but could see nothing. Then I decided to go look out the front door. I cracked it open to peer outside and a very BAD little Tinker slipped out the door and ran across the front lawn to the woods at the side of the house. I went out after her and she took off like the proverbial bat out of Hades. She ran full bore across the street (YIKES!) and went through one of those neighbors' yards, then the neighbors next door to them, then down in the back yard of the next neighbor's house, ,then she totally freaked me out by running across the street
were coming from each direction.....FORTUNATELY she made it across the street after one truck passed and then before the other truck got to where she was running. By that time she had run into the back yard of a neighbor two houses over from us. In that backyard she stopped and pooped and I tried to throw my sweatshirt-sweater over her but she dodged it. Then I continued to run after her into the neighbor's yard next door to us, and she went on the back side of their hedge, so I went along the front, thinking I could 'cut her off at the pass', so to speak; I then noticed she had come out the end of the hedge BEHIND me, so I changed my tactics by slapping my hand on my thigh and said, "Come on! Let's go back to the house".....a sentence she actually seems to understand....and as she ran up to pass me, I grabbed her and got her picked up, and brought her back into the house.
My heart was POUNDING from the fears that accompanied me as I chased behind her. I was really afraid I would see her hit and killed by a car. Then I wondered how far down the road she might get before I had to give up going after her. She was running FULL-TILT-BOOGIE, like the zoomies on steroids. She had on no collar or harness, and she has not been chipped yet. All kinds of thoughts were running through my mind! Thank goodness she changed direction ran toward our house, rather than further on down the road.
Then when I got back in the house and down into the den, I was telling Nannie what I had just been through, and she started talking about how she had gone outside after I did, but then her story swerved into something about a line of people at the back door, and the, OF COURSE she had to include her "two shoes" in the telling and how she had to go outside to get them back. OMG. Those dern shoes!
I eventually calmed down, and I vowed to never make the mistake of cracking the door open JUST A LITTLE BIT, before making SURE where Tinker was and that she was not near the door! EGADS , what a time that was!
So, today? I dunno. still have to do the dishes and my laundry, but I also have to give Tinker all her preventative meds and a joint supplement (because she has an easily subluxed back left leg.) I need to refill my mediset. I also want to get some small potatoes and carrots and celery to put in to the crockpot with a pork loin roast, to make for Sunday supper.
It is almost 11 AM so I better get started doing SOMETHING. Have to pick Nannie up just before 5 PM and bring her home. Oh, and there are 11 hours before her bedtime, or ten hours if I am lucky and she requests to go to bed a little earlier; sometimes after a day at the daycare, she dozes off earlier than usual and I can get her to agree that she needs to go lay down so her neck and shoulder will quit hurting her. She's like a little kid who wants to stay up as long as anybody else is staying up. I tell her she isn't going to miss anything by going to bed early, because there is nothing going on, AND *I* will be going up to bed right after she does.
89 degrees with a Real Feel of 93 degrees, humidity is 92% and there is a 68% chance of rain at noon and one PM and again at 5 and 6 PM.
Anyway, I have to stop yakking now and see about getting a few things accomplished.
Hello all!
What a naughty, adventuresome Tinker! Fuggedabout having any sort of fear of new places, nope! She just TOOK OFF!! I'm so glad you were able to corral her! I can tell THAT ain't gonna happen again! I hope the rest of today is anticlimactic!
Joe, I hope you see some new birds, for your efforts!
Tweety, good luck with your new tofu recipe (am I right, that it will involve spices?!!).
I made a pumpkin-carrot cake yesterday. It was supposed to have oat flour in it, which I didn't have, so I substituted 1 cup almond flour and 1/2 cup coconut flour. It called for maple syrup for the sweetener, and coconut oil. It turned out pretty good, though I cheated and made some cream cheese frosting to go on top. REAL cream cheese frosting, with buttah and powdered sugar! Naughty me! I did realize, too, that I should get some more baking powder, as I believe mine is too old, and has lost its fizzle.
Today we will go up to Oak Glen and help out with some music -- jam style, nothing fancy. This is the start of their Wild West Weekend, and over the weekend they will have a chuck wagon-prepared dinner and lots of vendors in their grassy area. It will be mid-90's here, so probably 10 degrees cooler up there, so should be nice.
Have a good day/evening!
Oh, my, Tinker! You little rascal! I know I quite panic when my dogs get out, because of the road. Even though the speed limit is 25, we are on the edge of town and many cars are speeding in or out of the area. And we have lost one dog and a cat on that durn road.
Our weather continues to be mild, low 70s, a bit hazy. Youngest ds and I rode bikes again yesterday, and stopped for a coffee and found a new bike shop. Then home for I hope, the last blueberry picking and washing. I took the surplus to the food bank this morning. I took the dogs along and walked at the park. They are less rambunctious when I walk them, instead of just letting them play in the fenced backyard.
dh wants to me try a new blueberry coffee cake recipe, but I can't find mine. I could go to the store, bleh. Speaking of the stores, the local JCPenney is closing. That was my mom's go-to department store, when I was a child. She was a prodigious seamstress, and they had the best selection of fabrics. She would also check out Newberry's , across the street, and Sears, 3 blocks down. If we were lucky, we could sit at the Newberrys counter and get a Green River or popcorn.
Here's a question for you medical professionals. Dh gets a runny nose after using his CPAP. The NP suggested he adjust the humidity. Does he increase or decrease the humidity?
Probably decrease the humidity but that's just a guess. I really don't know.
My first Iggy was outside and ran in front of a car and the car saw him and stopped but it was too late. He got run over and I fell on the ground crying "no, no no". Then he walks out from under the car scratched but prancing around like it was no big deal. The driver I think was as traumatized as I was. It was 2AM and since I was insomniac took him out the front yard. The last time he ever was out without a leash. It's amazing how fast these buggers get when they escape.
Dianah, enjoy the jam. Of course the recipe involves spice. It's from a vegan Sri Lankin cookbook. But not too many spices just ginger, garlic powder, cayenne, and turmeric. It's marinating in some lime juice and oil. Bet it will be good.
Joe, I hope you've had a nice day off.
Tweety, let us know how your tofu dish turns out.
Stars -- oh, my, Tinker! At least now you know what she's capable of (LOL) and can be prepared. Binx wants to be outside so badly and Hubs does let him go out some. But when we are grilling food out back and going in and out a lot we lock the cats in the bedroom because Binx WILL manage to dodge outside when the door is opened. Twin B said the other day he saw coyotes on his drive home one morning. But then he decided maybe they were foxes (? OK ?). I guess either one could snatch a cat given the opportunity.
dianah, enjoy your weekend -- sounds like fun and a nice break from the heat.
J22, so far our JC Penney is still in business. Though I don't remember fabric in Penney's. I did spend a lot of time in fabric stores and the fabric areas in department stores with my mother when I was little. I don't sew clothes but have done some quilting. I'm going to miss JoAnn Stores. Walmart does have some fabrics. And surely Michael's or Hobby Lobby would.
I would *guess* try decreasing the humidity on the CPAP, but not sure that's the right answer.
We had our "teddy bear clinic" at the hospital today and over 30 kids showed up so I'd say it was a great success. It looked like they were having fun. I got a pina colada sno-cone. We also had vehicles from the police, fire department, and EMS. We had planned on a helicopter but the weather was uncooperative at first, then when they did come and were just about to land they got called out for a run.
toomuchbaloney said:NSIME I had a dog that would occasionally bolt outside if someone casually opened the door. We put a simply baby gate up that we can swing aside when the dog is under control. Meanwhile, the main door can be answered safely.
Ahhhh, good idea! Thanks! I'll see if BiL can do that on our doors.

Ado that is awfully hot
Stars hopefully they find a replacement for her soon
Dianah it's been years since I've experienced an earthquake I could feel
Tweety glad that you seem to be healing
Hi NJ22
Was a good quiet day at work yesterday. Nothing unexpected, no new cases. Even had time to help someone else out
After work was pretty quiet too. Just exercised and worked a bit on a puzzle I bought
Have today off, so will go out bird watching. Will run an errand or two and stop at a local restaurant. Not sure what else I'll do but I'll figure that out as the day progresses
Going to be nice, in the mid 70s, although air quality is fairly poor due to the Canadian wildfires
