Good morning all!
I had a nice long walk with a friend yesterday. She will often walk 1-2 hours daily; has been retired a couple years now. Hopefully we will walk together more often now I'm retired. We walked in a beautiful, hilly park with lots of trees and flowers, and also in a nice neighborhood next to the park.
Also, yesterday we engaged a yardwork crew to trim our large sycamore, take out a palm tree, and clean up the mess that is the backyard (small as it is). It was a chunk of money but now it's all done and ready for Summer.
Sleeping since retirement has been strange. I will sleep 2-3 hours then am awake for another 2-3 hours before falling back asleep. I am hoping this settles down and that I am able to get some solid sleep.
The Renaissance Faire opens this weekend, huzzah! We have talked about going, though not if temps will be 98 degrees! Wearing the Renaissance "garb" gets a little hot in those temperatures. May wait till a cooler weekend comes around. I usually like to buy tickets online, but since we can only get a senior discount by buying on site, I may opt to buy tickets there.
Have a good day!
Hi everyone. 8/12 hours down for this first day back after all the drama and stress. It feels odd. Like the air is thick. But again, I'm still incredibly grateful. Now I just want to get through the rest of this. May 14. Just a hair over a month. I can do that.
The grand-nana-van (what my grandkids call my van) had a good ride and didn't go through as much fuel as it normally does. Looking forward to talking her up in the hills and breathing some fresh, clean air.
Did not hear from mom or SIL today. I assume health-wise all is well.
SIL is mourning the loss of her dog. My heart hurts for her. So hard to lose our fur kids.
It's been a beautiful day outside today. But I see a frost warning for tonight. Glad I brought the warm clothes.
Hope you are all doing well and having a good day.
dianah - the Renaissance Faire sounds really cool. I thought about attending something similar as I would love to 'dress up'. Your ativity sched will settle down eventually.
Hey! How do I BEST-ESTLY open a post for like our old 'RIP', 'intensely like/dislike' post. Like the besy spot - I just don't want to tag along. Same for the yellow threads.
Like Bobby Rydell, 78 yo, died. Such a popular teen singing idol from the 1950s & '60s. Died of pneumonia in a Philly hosp as he remained true to his hometown roots. Was in the movie, 'Bye Bye, Birdie' and was active in music revivals & tours. Also famous for his 'Wildwood Days' song. I could sing along to every one of his 45 rpm records if I tried now.
Partly sunny, partly cloudy, and an increasing wind w/ gusts, ie getting colder!
amo-Lu, Bobby Rydell was my sister's favorite teen-idol of the time. There was a bamboo hanging-screen between the two sides of the big room my sister and I shared for a number of years, and her side of that screen was plastered with Bobby Rydell photos from such magazines as TEEN, and others, the names of which I cannot recall. I liked him in Bye-Bye Birdie, but thought Ann Margret was horribly mis-cast in her roll. There was nothing of a "small town teen" about her at all. And, yes, I can sing the entire sound-track from that movie: "What's the story, morning-glory, what's the word hummingbird? Did you hear about Hugo and Kim? Did she really get pinned? Did she kiss him and cry? Did he pin the pin on, or was he too shy?" (good grief!?.) ....and also in that song was Harvey, trying to get a date to the prom: "Hello Mrs. Garfine, is Charity home from school yet?"
dianah, when I lived in Nashville, I worked 3-11, so I got to walk late mornings, about 5-6 miles with a friend's dog, about 4 days a week, at least! Warner Park in Nashville had three trails: 1 & 1/2 miles, 6 miles, and 11 miles. There was a 2nd Warner Park, and one of my favorites was Radnor Lake. I could say the words "Radnor Lake" to that dog and he'd get extremely excited! I do miss those parks, but I'm afraid to go back to see them because, y'know, things have a way of changing. It seems to me that --oh-- YEERZ ago, there was talk of kind of commercializing Radnor Lake in several ways, but I liked it kind of primitive, the way it was when I lived in Nashville.
Julie, sorry to hear about your SiL's dog.
Hey Joe, Tweety, j22, BCg, and, and, and....I know I always forget somebody when I begin listing screen names like that!
My fingers are cold, so I'm going to stop typing and sit on my hands! ?️
Hello, all, and happy Fri-yay. It feels good to have the week behind me. It was a pretty productive week.
dianah -- a long walk in nature is so good for the soul
Julie -- when I first took agency contracts, I would tell myself I can do anything for 13 weeks. And you can do anything for 4 weeks -- it will be over before you know it.
The big deal at work the last couple of days is that we hadn't been doing some required reporting related to Covid. I set up many, many accounts for various reporting based on the "bible" passed down to me. But this one wasn't in it. So I have caught us up as much as it will let me.
I think I also *finally* have access to the reporting out of Epic that I needed to make my life a whole lot easier. I will explore that more thoroughly next week.
While sunny and 63 degrees, it is windy (breezy is an understatement) and that wind is chilly. I know that soon I will be complaining about the heat, but it would be nice to have some *warm* days.
We have one last rehearsal Saturday morning and then the service on Sunday.
Hope you all have an excellent weekend.
Afternoon. I've been rather lazy today, as my leg is rather sore, but in a good way, after yesterday's massage. I took a long, slooow, walk with the dog, about a mile and a half, down through the new houses built below us on the hill. They look huge, with tiny little yards, but I guess that is the preference now. I got my flame weeder out and scorched some weeds, cleaned up the kitchen, and chased the vacuum a bit. And I've been sneaking in a little TV. Dh had very little soreness after his root canal. I was expecting to make him cream of wheat, but he wanted a hamburger, so we ate out.
When I was in grad school, my advisor told me I could do anything for a quarter, meaning the school term. I was working .7, and doing 15 credits so I could get my scholarship, and I was ready to quit many times. And remote technology wasn't nearly as evolved back then. Hang in there, Julie. You got this and soon it will be a distant memory.
I used to donate blood, but can't now due to a prescription I have to take. But I did earn my 8 gallon pin before I had to quit. I used to joke about getting a hat when I got to 10 gallons, but nobody thought that was as funny as I did, LOL. They probably didn't grow up watching John Wayne.
Weather can't make up it's mind today, sunny, then a shower, then sunny again. I think we are done with frosts until next fall.
Well, I would've laughed about the John Wayne 10 gallon hat ?because THAT'S funny! Maybe we aren't understood by the younger folks. I find that to be true the older I get. If I say a unfamiliar - to them - name or an event and I get back this response:
? '???????????????????' ?
Tonight...what was supposed to be a Braves/Reds baseball game, as noted in the cable TV list of programs, was an ice-hockey game. I said, "That's NOT baseball! Ya can't fool me!" Ppfftt! Oh well. It just means Nannie went to bed earlier tonight, so I can't complain. If the ballgame was on she'd likely stay up until 10 PM.
Another weekend is set to whooooooosh by. So, DUCK! ? ( The full saying is "duck or bleed" but bleeding didn't seem appropriate or pertinent in this case.)
Dull night, here. I'll probably become fully awake when I try to sleep. BAH!

Run your cursor over the yellow bar at the top of the page, then click when you reach "Breakroom / Clubs" area. Then follow instructions in the green bar, for how to start a new breakroom club area. ?
