Fresno City RN Applicants 23/24

Nursing Students School Programs

Hey guys, for those of you that had gotten selected before knowing your results in the previous lotto, was your evaluation status still pending or was it completed? I'm nervous because I applied for radiology and I was unselected because my application did not get evaluated and I'm scared that it will be the same for my RN program

Does anyone know where I can get info about Gurnick's accelerated ADN? The only ADN program I see on the website says it's 23 months long.

Sorry I may have mistaken it's 9months additional if you need to take pre-reqs and 14 months if you already have your pre-reqs, totaling 23 months. So for me, I did all my pre-reqs so I would start in May and finish in 14 months after

I could be wrong now but when I explored the private options all of them had their own pre read that you HAVE to take with them and FCC courses don't transfer over. Forcing you to pay them more money for classes you already took and extending the time until you are actually in an RN program. For me I decided it wasn't worth it for what their backed pass rates were at the time. But that was 3-4 years ago.

I think that's definitely still the case for most of them unfortunately! I just haven't had much luck with any of my surrounding ADN programs so that might be my only choice at this point.

I just checked bc I was curious if things have changed.. gurnick requires 2 semesters of their GE prerequisites as part of the RN program so there's no way around taking those classes again (eng, math, soc, etc) the only accelerated option is if you have your lvn already and that still requires taking their GE prereqs for 2 semesters it only shortens the RN classes. They also require an interview, letters of recommendation, an essay, and community service work to apply to the program.

When I checked their program and had my interview with their recruiter, they told me that the accelerated program (bridge LVN to RN if that's what you're referring to) simply removes the first or first & second of the semesters of the program.  Its either 1 if its only 3 semesters long or could be 1 or 2 if its a 4 semester program.

I talked to them this month they do transfer over pre-reqs - they only require nutrition and critical thinking which I've taken for my bio degree so it significantly reduced my cost to attend. I think the only new since 2 years ago is they are now requiring community service

Unfortunately that's just how it goes... I've been in these forums with Barbie1181 and I'm in the same boat as her. FCC changes the way the lottery is pulled every year and they don't care how many times we've been thru all this stress. FCC is the only feasible option for me as well yet year after year I see people get accepted on their first or second try and get into multiple programs but choose to take a seat at FCC. While there are ppl like Barbie1181 and myself that keep our fingers crossed for this ONE program. This is definitely my last year dealing with it because I'm not going to pay to take the new TEAS or retake prerequisites. I've already started a career path change that is going well.

FCC is the only option I can do for an RN program.  Private is out of the question financially.  COS focuses on GPA as a major factor.  West Hills only allows you 2 attempts at any of the required classes before they list whatever grade received on the first, second, or third attempt in that program.  I took anatomy, physio, and micro at COS the second semester out of high school and ended up in a major car wreck the week AFTER the drop date so I got a F in all 3.  Took them again at COS on my third semester and literally another major car wreck but this time 3 weeks before drop date so I got a W in all 3.  Recouped at Reedley and took A & P and ended up having to move unexpectedly after 3 months into the semester so I had to drop all classes with a W.  Took them all and most of the other pre-req classes at West Hills and got good grades.  Problem is West Hills is going to only use the F, W, and W for determining my grade in A & P so right off the bat I have 2 F's in pre-req classes for their GPA point allotment.

Did you get unselected yet?? Or are you assuming since it's still pending ??

this was my final year applying and since I have to retake the TEAS to be eligible again I decided to change career paths. I've been tattooing for a  little bit now so I'm just going to apply myself there and hopefully get into a shop. I explored private schools at sjvc and gurnick but neither seemed like a logical option for me.

Holy crap that's such the change in career paths.  Not that there's anything wrong with tattooing if you've got the talent for it.  There are plenty of people who want to get tattoos, myself included.  Same for me about private schools.  I've got a program that's willing to cover up-to $10k for an RN program which is like nothing for either of those and I don't qualify for private loans (woo hoo bad credit LOL).  Gurnick doesn't do federal aid and not sure about SJVC

I agree, but I know many from Gurnick who passed the first time last cohort so I'm not sure if they update their stats frequently. I feel like you get what u put in and I feel like paying that money I'll do anything I can to pass ?

TEAS at Gurnick is 62% or higher. Tuition RN is 94k without pre - reqs but significantly goes down if you take them + financial aid if u get any.

Gurnick is eligible for financial aid now?  I checked them out in 2020 (pre lockdown) and they said they are not eligible for federal financial aid or loans.  It all had to be private loans.

Any of their pre-req classes outside of the standard RN ones the state board requires can transfer over to Gurnick  equally.  The only thing is if their program has one class you haven't taken (ie English, critical thinking, etc) then you'll have to take it with them in that semester its offered in that program.  You just won't have to repeat any classes you've already completed.  Best bet is to knock out ALL of those classes before trying to get in just so you can start later in their program for less money.

Is anyone still pending? Woke up to still pending.
