a doctor orders 200 mg of rocephin to be taken by a 15.4 lb infant every 8 hours. the medication label shows that 75-150mg/kg/day is the appropriate dosage range. is this hcp order within the desired range?

solumedrol 1.5mg/kg is ordered for a child weighing 74.8 lb. solumedrol is available as 125mg/2ml. how many ml must the nurse administer.

the child is 15.4lb, convert this to kg.

1kg=2.2046 lb so the child is 15.4lbx1kg/2.2046lb=6.98kg

min.mg can be administered;

6.98kg x 75mg / 1kg = 523,5mg

max.mg;

6.98kg x 150mg / 1kg = 1047mg

every 8h 200mg, daily 200mg x 3 = 600mg that is within in the desired dose.

the child is 74.8lb x 1kg / 2.2046lb =33.92kg

the kid needs to receive (33.92kg x 1.5mg) / 1kg =50.88mg of the med. which is

(50.88mg x 2ml) / 125mg = 0.81ml
