Free CNA training in Boston area

I am interested in becoming a cna, and would like to get free training instead of paying for the American Red Cross course. Does anyone know of any nursing homes in the Boston area that is starting a class in April that I could try to sign up for free?

I just recently inquired about this a few weeks ago. There used to be free programs but like so many other programs they cut the funding and are no longer available. I also spoke with a very helful woman at the Red Cross and she said that sometimes depending on where you live and your financial situation there can be programs but she said these are more geared towards people recieving some sort of assistance. She suggested also trying to contact a local career center to see if they offer some sort of training. Mine didn't offer it unless you were recieving unemployment. I don't know what your situation is but you could call your local agency and find out if you qualify. I know some visiting nurse agencies do offer the training for free but you are obligated to work for them for a certain amount of time in exchange.

I ran across the following free cna training program and thought I would share. Even if people miss the deadline, you could keep the information for this institution on file and call periodically to see when they will be offering the training again.

Saint Patrick's Manor

863 Central Street,

Framingham, MA

They are now taking applications for a free nurse aide traning program. The application deadline is June 5th. First day of classes is June 23. Last day is July 10. All training takes place from 8am to 4pm. The contact for the program is Morena Murga.

If anyone ends up enrolling, please let me know how it works out.

http://www.longtermcarecareers.org/trnpgmdisplay.php?region_id=3&BY_SELECT=true lists some free trainings in the Boston area. The ones offering the programs are all listed as Institution type: Nursing Facility.

I've called at least one ad on the Boston Craig's List and was told that they had a paid CNA training. At the time, I didn't take the training because I thought I wanted to stick with dog walking for a while longer. How silly of me.

The Red Cross offers this training for $850, but that is a lot of money. The unpaid trainings also might get into the way of other work schedules, so it looks like a paid training is really the way to go.

I know Im quite late on this reply but I did speak with someone from HR and it indeed is free, you train while you work! A class started today 3/1/10 and they may have another in the spring depending on the interest of the people! SO why not give it a shot!!

Im going to go apply this weekend!:)

HR at St. Patricks Manor.... The facility that offers the 'free' CNA training.. What it is is you train while you work. They do give the same certification as the Red Cross would... It lasts for 3 weeks, 4 days a week (8am-4pm). The only way they offer it is by popular demand (SO PEOPLE APPLY SO WE CAN HAVE ANOTHER TRAINING BEGIN). im hoping to hear back from them really soon!!!!

Where are you MA nurses located? and what schools do you/did you go to?

Ah...all the way out in Framingham. I work in Cambridge starting at 3:30pm 5 days a week, so time might be an issue. I'll still try contacting the HR at St. Patrick's to see if there's any ways to make it work though. Thanks again for the tip!

Btw, I'm also in Boston..not a nursing student yet, but I'll be doing a direct entry program soon; still deciding where. What about you?

I know it is a ways out there but do remember you are employed so its not like you dont have a job, you get paid while you train and work and after training you do have a job

I just stumbled on this thread today. If you haven't found anything yet, have you tried calling the Colonial Nursing and Rehab Ctr in Weymouth?
