i work in a little po-dunk town and i will admit that if i went back to work in ft worth i could make right around 10-12 more dollars per hour. because i work agency and have been offered many contracts for the big money ,but i would just rather not. i cant stand the traffic or being downtown without a gun... ill just stick to my little facility in the middle of nowhere...
so, other than cowtown in growing, why would someone want to work as a nurse there?
i am very paranoid about being a victim of crime so being in the big city especially during the dark hours is a major concern for me. i don't know if it has gotten that bad because i have a screwed up way of thinking. my husband goes down there and talks with the bums and people all over all hours of the night... but then he looks like he just did a long stretch at shawshank prison
didn't know it had gotten that bad there.
No, it hasn't gotten "bad" in Fort Worth. The city is actually rather safe when compared to other similarly-sized cities. I absolutely loathe negative misconceptions.Didn't know it had gotten that bad there.

Fort Worth stands as the ninth-safest U.S. city among those with a population over 500,000 in 2006.
stats don't mean jack...all that looks at is reported incidents. if have spent enough time in the hood to know what goes on. this is the reason i am paranoid because i know the behind the scenes junk. plenty of friends over there with stories to tell. truth is it has been bad for years in ft worth but your not gonna find that on a internet statistical research site.

fort worth is a city with a massive amount of land area, nearly 300 square miles. only a couple of neighborhoods are really "bad" or riddled with crime. the rest of the areas are quite safe.stats don't mean jack...all that looks at is reported incidents. if have spent enough time in the hood to know what goes on. this is the reason i am paranoid because i know the behind the scenes junk. plenty of friends over there with stories to tell. truth is it has been bad for years in ft worth but your not gonna find that on a internet statistical research site.
I work at a hospital in downtown FW, and it's nowhere near as bad as say downtown Dallas. I mean, yeah...I pay attention to my surroundings when I make a 3:00 AM food run, but I've never been harrassed or approached by any scarey people. I've worked as a paramedic in several cities in the area, including FW and believe me...FW is far better off crime-wise than other cities that have a quarter of the population, IMO. It's a pretty cool city.
I've never felt unsafe in Downtown FW. Granted, I'm generally always with people and there are almost always a lot of cops patrolling and I only park in well lit areas...but I've never felt unsafe like I would walking through downtown Dallas. Any downtown area is going to have it's share of seedy streets but for the most part downtown FW is pretty nice, at least the areas that I go to. And if I walk down a dark street...I dial 911 or my Dad and hover my finger over the talk button just in case...
I cannot WAIT to graduate in August so I can move back to FW...
