foreign graduate applying for RN.Really confused about choosing Kansas or California

Hi, this is a nursing graduate from Nepal.I m currently living in Kansas and will be here for 2 more yrs. I got my SSN today and now the ultimate thing is to start application process for RN. I m so stressed out and confused thinking from which board I should apply:confused:. A friend of mine (who is also from Nepal and currently working as RN in USA) suggested me to apply from California since the board is foreign graduate friendly and things get easier and faster there. (they don't need TOEFL, CGFNS evaluation). she too applied from California and got her licence endorsed in her state later. Kansas board needs TOEFL, CES from CGFNS, that certainly lengthens application process for me(need to take TOEFL). My friend told me endorsement doesn't take much time and effort so its best to apply from California. But what I think is endorsement process in Kansas might be different from her state. I went through the website of Kansas board but its really confusing. I m worried if I need to provide TOEFL marks and CES or need to deal with any other problem (being foreign graduate) while doing endorsement in Kansas. At this point I m not being able to decide what to do. so if there's anyone who has better understanding of this situation, has been through similar situation or has idea about Kansas board please please please help me go through this. waiting for your valuable advice and guidance!!!!

Your best bet is to contact the BON and ask them clearly what is required when endorsing a license when trained outside the US.

If I were you, I'd just go straight to Kansas RN application. California doesn't require CES or any English test but Kansas does. So if you'll gonna endorse your license to KS, then you'll gonna go through the whole process of CES application, English test, fingerprints, etc. With the TOEFL, though, I think they may waive it if you already took your NCLEX, because when I endorsed my license to KS from another state, they didn't ask for the TOEFL.

Also, email the Kansas State Board of Nursing. They're very helpful.

Things are pretty tough for many nurses in CA especially for International Educated Nurses as CA are very strict in the nurse registration. Many employers will not even look at you until you are licensed.

What is your working status in the States? Is there a SS# (valid for authorized working not the kind that allows you to get a bank account or for ID purposes) that you have so that you can apply for licensure in CA? Or have a working permit?

One may possess several years of paid RN experience (however, many US hospitals do not give any consideration for those years if they were done in a foreign country).

I m here in F2A visa. yes i have got SS#.Except for RN,can i apply for any other nursing jobs? Are my qualifications equivalent to LBNs? Can i get the LBN jobs?

You will need to meet state requirements pass NCLEX and then find a employer willing to sponsor or petition you. I presume you mean LPN and not LBN and will you require a visa allowing you to work? If yes then LNP will not meet work visa requirements as well as immigrant requirements? If you have a visa already allowing you to work then regardless off RN or LPN you have to meet state requirements and pass NCLEX
