Hi. I am a foreign grad going through the process of getting an RN license in the state of Illinois. I have submitted my application to IDFPR, and continental testing. I have also gotten my credentials evaluated by CGFNS, and ive done my fingerprinting. However, I still have not received the letter in mail telling me that I can test for the NCLEX. Am i missing something? when i go on the continental testing site to check the status, it says I need a report from CGFNS. I thought they would send the report to continental testing automatically. Do i send the report. Im confused on what am i missing? i've called the nursing board and they told me to call continental testing but no one picks up and ive left a voice mail. Any help will be greatly appreciated. thank you in advance
Have any foreign nurses gone through the CGFNS process and the IDPFR-education is comparable but missing theory/clinical components? I am an Irish psychiatric nurse and understand that I will be missing Med/Surg, Peds, Obs. Is it pretty straightforward to take those classes at the approved colleges and then be eligible to sit the NCLEX? I am trying to plan this well ahead so any advice or experience with this would be greatly appreciated! Thanks
Welcome to allnurses! :balloons:
Many people have trouble finding opportunities to take specific nursing classes. Most US programs are full of students who are enrolled for the full nursing program, and they do not have any "spaces" available to accommodate people who only want to take part of the program. (The state BONs limit the number of students nursing programs are approved to accept, based on the number of faculty members they have and how many students their clinical sites can accommodate -- they can't just enroll as many people as they want to.)
There are lots of existing threads here about the difficulties UK nurses (and nurses from some other parts of the world) have getting licensed in the US (not any kind of comment on the quality of your education or expertise, just a matter of a different model of nursing education and licensure).
Best wishes for your journey!
