For those who work in LTC facility, what is the doctor like?

I am so curious to know what the MDs are like where you work. I personally have never seen the "MD" one time while working. My coworkers say he is an absolute pervert. Isn't that terrible? They say he has shifty eyes:coollook:. How often do your patients have visits from their doctor or healthcare provider?

They come once a month to do rounds with the charge nurse first thing in the morning.

The one @ the ALF I work for is VERY difficult to get along with. If he calls & you put him on hold for longer than 2 minutes, trust me..he will bite your head off!

The MD's where I work come in two or three times a week and are pretty nice. There are two of them and they mostly seem to do paperwork and see the residents they need to.

The doctors I worked with were really nice. Actually, at my last LTC the doctor was more respectful to the CNA's then he was to the nurses. He used to chew the RN's/LPN's out and in the same breath tell the CNA's what a wonderful job they were doing. I have seen some nurses walk away in tears because of how nasty some doctors can be. It all depends where you work and what kind of doctor you work with.

I've only seen one MD while working as a CNA. Most of our patients just retain their family doctor.

I rarely see a doctor around my work! And when he does his "rounds" once every couple of months or so, he literally checks them by touching their shoulders while he walks by chatting with the nurse. "Yup, still alive! My job here is done!". It's pathetic.

The physician for the rehab patients comes in once a week and does assessments on new admissions and follows up with other patients. Great guy, no ego, doesn't boss the nursing staff around.

The LTC doctor? I'm pretty sure he's a myth like bigfoot. In 2 years I have never seen him come in and do an assessment. Whenever something goes wrong, the nurse assesses the residents and calls him up for orders. No idea what the guy looks like. . . All I know is that you don't even have to be at the nurses station to hear him screaming through the phone.

So, I just saw our LTC doctor a few days ago. He's quite possibly the nicest and most thorough doctor I've seen. :) He didn't look down on me as "just a CNA", but seemed genuinely impressed with the work I was doing. I hope he comes again.

Our MD comes in about twice a month but that's usually on dayshift, which I never work unless I volunteer, because I'm an evening-shifter. But he knows next to nothing about the residents according the the RN supervisor who always complains about him. Actually, the most I've seen of him is when he does the yearly staff physicals...and that's basically a fellow CNA doing vitals while he just writes them down...
