For Those Considering Online Science Classes...

Hey all,

Last week, I signed up for pre-req science courses at Edukan and was supposed to start next month. After giving it a lot of thought, I heed the advice of some posters here and called both nursing schools I'm considering, and I found out that neither one will accept science courses that have the labs conducted online, they need to be hands-on. I was completely bummed because that will set me back at least one more semester before I can apply to a nursing program, but I'm happy to have found this out before investing time and $$$ in classes I wouldn't get credit for. Anyway, I just wanted to share my experience and re-emphasize the importance of making sure the online science classes you take will be transferrable to your nursing program!

Sorry they wouldn't accept them -- good thing you checked! I took all of my sciences online. The A & P labs were virtual, Chem was part virtual and part hands on and Micro was hands on. I found absolutely no difficulty in my nursing classes with having had my sciences online, except that I pronounce many things incorrectly! There was no one saying the words out loud, so whatever I made up in my head was how I now know certain things. Hopefully other schools will catch up and recognize the online courses for others in the future.

I checked with the University of Oklahoma and they told me as long as the college giving the credit was accredited, that was all that mattered. Nothing shows up on your transcript saying it was online labs or anything like that. Guess it just goes to show you how important it is to check!

Good-luck!

That's too funny! :roll

Just my luck that I would get the schools that don't accept the online courses even though they're accredited...so frustrating! Ah well, that's the way it goes, I guess.

Glad it worked out for you both!

I am planning on going to deaconess next fall and I called them about the online science classes. They said that as long as the college is on their approved list it will be no problem. ccconline was on their approved list but Edukan was not... I guess it all depends on the nursing school you are planning on going to. Good luck!

but Edukan was not...

When asking about Edukan, they are not the college that gives the credit. The credit comes through one of the colleges listed on their website: Barton County Community College, Dodge City Community College, Garden City Community College, Seward County Community College, Pratt Community College, and Colby Community College. Ask about these specific colleges! You choose one that you will receive your credit through. Edukan is only the consortium that allows you to take the classes online.
